CARGO SHIP HITS BRIDGE
Saturday February 4th, 2012
A 300 foot long cargo vessel carrying rocket equipment has smashed through a bridge in Benton Kentucky, because it was too tall to go underneath the bridge.
The ship “Delta Mariner” had around twenty crew onboard but no one was injured. The “Eggner Ferry Bridge “is used by over 2500 vehicles a day and four cars were actually crossing on the bridge when the ship hit it, again though none of these were injured.
Steve Beshear the the Kentucky governer said 'We are grateful that this wreck caused no injuries or loss of life.
'Since that bridge carries 2,800 cars every day, we were very fortunate that no one was on the span at that time.
'We'll turn our attention to a full inspection of the bridge and determine what steps we can take next to speed up the replacement of that important artery.'
