CAPTAIN OATES HISTORIC BOAT BACK IN THE WATER
An historic vessel once owned by Antarctic explorer Captain Oates has been restored to its former glory in Dartmouth. The wooden Charles Sibbick yawl, ‘Saunterer’ was built in 1900 and belonged to Captain LEG Oates between 1905 and his death in 1912.
Co-owner of the gaff rigger, Guy Savage said of the restoration, 'We recognise now, after re-building Saunterer for two years, Oates's feelings with his quotation 'I am just going outside and may be some time.'
‘Saunterer’ will be at appearing many of this year's classic yacht regattas on England's South Coast and is well worth looking out for.
