Caledonian Canal reopens
The Caledinian Canal has now reopened following closure and repairs following damage by flooding. In early March, heavy rains washed away half the structure at Cullochy weir, near Fort Augustus. Repairing the canal was a challenging task due to the high volume of water passing through and involved the temporary construction of a rock dam and sheet piling backfilled with more than 1000 tonnes of rock and material.
