BILLIONAIRE CLOWN BLASTS OFF INTO SPACE

Wednesday September 30th, 2009
ImageBillionaire clown Guy Laliberte and two fellow astronauts have blasted off on a trip to the International Space Station aboard a Soyuz rocket. Also along for the ride are US astronaut Jeffrey Williams and Russian cosmonaut Maxim Surayev. As the three of them climbed aboard the capsule at Russia’s Bailonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan each sporting red noses they sang the pop song ‘Mammy Blue’.
As the capsule successfully shed its rocket stages the spectators at the Cosmodrome burst into a collective rendition of Elton John’s hit ‘Rocket Man.’ Amongst them was Laliberte’s partner, former model, Claudia Barilla (wearing a yellow nose?) who had this to say about her 50 year-old boyfriends £35mil trip. “I’m very happy for him. It’s amazing... Now we know he’s up there.”
Canadian, Laliberte who made his fortune as a founder member of Cirque du Soleil, is due back on earth in12 days; his companions will continue to orbit for a further 157 days.
