ASPIRIN A DAY GOOD FOR YOU

Friday August 8th, 2014
ImageTaking one 75mg low dosage aspirin a day could dramatically reduce the chances of getting many common cancers that cause thousands of deaths every year. Studies suggest that if 50 to 64 year olds took one low dosage aspirin a day for a ten year period their chances of dying of bowel cancer would reduce by 40% and the chances of dying from oesophageal and stomach cancers could be reduced by as much as 50%

To get full benefits from the drug takes 5 to 10 years. Jack Cuzick who is in charge of the research said:
“Taking an aspirin a day looks to be the most important thing we can do to reduce cancer other than stopping smoking and reducing obesity'.

Aspirin sometimes called the wonder drug, is also known to reduce the risks of some strokes and heart attacks. There is however a downside. It can cause stomach bleeds in 60 year olds, which some could die from, but this is a really small percentage, Cuzick suggests that there is evidence that the stomach bleeds were more likely amongst people who have the bacterium Helicobacter pylori in their stomach, which can also cause peptic ulcers.

The research also suggested that aspirin taken alongside a healthy lifestyle would reduce the chances of various cancers as well as other benefits. However they did point out that people should not think that they can live an unhealthy lifestyle, ie smoking, drinking, bad diets and little exercise, and think they will be ok because they are taking Aspirin
