AMPUTEE SWIMS CHANNEL

Wednesday September 22nd, 2010
A French amputee may well have surprised himself by setting a new record for swimming the English Channel. Philippe Croizon, whose arms and legs have been amputated had set himself a target of 24 hours but managed to swim from Folkestone to Cap Gris Nez in a little over 13 hours.
Asked about his success, the father of two said, 'I did it! It's mad! I've done this for myself, for my family, and for all those who have suffered tragedy and lost their taste for life.'
The 42year-old who lost his limbs 16 years ago following a massive electric shock added he wanted to become 'a representative of someone overcoming his restrictions'. He also said that at no point did he feel he wasn’t going to succeed and claims that three dolphins that swam alongside him for a while were a “sign of good luck.”
