EASTBOURNE
Nestled at the foot of the South Downs next to Beachy Head, Eastbourne is amongst the most elegant seaside resorts in Britain. A retirement hotspot, the town is also a magnet for pleasure craft and water sports enthusiasts who are attracted by the fabulous climate, superb cruising grounds and award winning Sovereign Harbour. With 24hour access to the sea, the marina makes an excellent setting off point for cruises to France, Holland, Belgium and the Mediterranean and the facilities are fittingly world class. A few minutes walk from the moorings you will find the Waterfront area with its stylish cocktail bars, quayside restaurants, designer shopping and spectacular panoramic views.
In town there is always plenty going on. Eastbourne has a weekly farmers market, regular French market and the calendar of annual events that includes the International Women’s Tennis Open, Airbourne Air Show, Beer Festival and Feastbourne Show. Entertainment wise there are theatres, live music venues, children’s theme park, Victorian Pier and a 1930’s bandstand. The beaches are stunning and if your staying a while it might be worth considering renting one of the traditional beach cabins.
Inland, nature lovers will be in heaven as the magnificent South Downs opens up a treasure trove of flora and fauna. This breathtakingly beautiful part of the world is easily accessible by foot (via a 100 mile trail), bicycle and horseback. History lovers will be enthralled by wonderful 1066 heritage military forts and mysterious Long Man of Wilmington. And if that wasn’t enough Eastbourne is also officially the sunniest town in Britain. In short there is quite literally something there for everyone, no wonder people return to this most idyllic of resorts time and time again.
