Information
BANFF
The former fishing and cargo port of Banff, first came into being in 1625 when rocks were cleared from Guthrie’s Haven to form two inner basins. It was further improved in 1818 when the lighthouse quay was built, creating the outer harbour. In 2007 Banff Harbour Marina was officially opened offering local and visiting yachtsmen a wide range of excellent marine services. The inner basins have fully serviced pontoon berthing for 76 boats and 16 traditional drying out moorings. The outer basin also has plentiful tidal and drying out moorings.

Banff town centre is well renowned for it’s rich architectural style that reflects its prominent history as a Royal Burgh. A virtual cornucopia of heritage sites it is essentially a living museum so, as you would imagine, culture vultures flock there in their thousands. And the good stuff doesn’t end at the town boundary. The countryside surrounding Banff is nothing short of spectacular with precipitous cliff-top walks, stunning Highland panoramas and enough wildlife to keep even the most experienced naturalist intrigued.

The town has a wide range of accommodation - hotels, B&B, self-catering cottages, hostels and caravan site all of which are excellent and more often than not beautifully situated. There is good shopping in the town centre and numerous fine restaurants and cosy pubs to choose from. All in all Banff is a fascinating, thoroughly hospitable town and, in many ways, a welcome step back in time. But truth be known, Banff is very much in touch with the 21st century and fully able to satisfy the demands of today’s discerning visitor.
