Littlehampton Harbour
Welcome to the Best Kept Secret on the South Coast - Littlehampton Harbour. My name is Colin Hitchcock and I am proud to be the Harbour Master here in Littlehampton.
Colin Hitchcock - Harbour Master Since Roman times there has been a port on the River Arun and today's harbour has been designed for both leisure as well as commercial use.
For the leisure user a lot has changed in the past three years. Old timber wharves with vertical ladders have been replaced with modern pontoons with electricity and fresh water. A state of the art harbour office houses welcoming warm showers and toilets. Harbour Staff are on hand to assist mariners with mooring and guide them to the excellent facilities that lay within a short walk from the moorings.
Commercial craft regularly enter the port to discharge their cargo of stone from France and Ireland. Commercial craft can be seen from the footbridge offloading their cargo before departing again down the River Arun amongst the maze of small craft. From the east bank walkway pedestrians feel that close to the ships that they could almost stretch out and shake the Captains hand of the passing ships.
This is a living harbour with lots going on, our visitors come back time after time as they are always afforded a friendly welcome, so if you are passing give us a try, you will not be disappointed.
