Cycle & Surf Bike Hire
The easiest way of exploring this fantastic little island is by bicycle.
Once you leave the small town of St Anne you will encounter very little traffic, and with over ten miles of paved roads and many more miles of tracks and pathways, cycling is the ideal way to explore the island at your own pace.
We can offer cycles for all the family, with tag-a-longs and child seats available for smaller children.
Helmets can also be provided and are recommended for children, but it is not a law in Alderney to wear them. View a 360° tour

Hi Ollie & Sarah
Thanks for your inquiry. This is more of a review section so the owners may not notice your question immediately. Cycle and Surf is a family run business and they are all very friendly and helpful. They will explain everything you need to know regarding the electric bikes. They really are a great way to get around this beautiful island. Good luck and enjoy your holiday.

We are re-visiting Alderney again this year (Its only our second visit) the last time we were here we used our fold up bikes from the boat. Although we enjoyed this mode of transport, the island is pretty hilly, especially the ride from Braye Harbour to the village. So, this year we are considering hiring electric bikes, especially after reading these reviews. Neither of us have tried an electric bike before, and are looking forward to the experience. One question though, if the battery goes flat on a bike ride, are the bikes as easy to pedal as a normal bike? And how long would it take to charge up again? Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Sarah

Cruising the Channel Islands this summer and obviously Alserney is on our list. We like to explore and get around when we visit places. We intend hiring a car for Jersey and Guernsey and using our Bromptons for Sark. However we are undecided what to do for Alderney. We think it would be to big for our Bromptons, but would hiring electric bikes be sufficient to get discover the island? we are planning on staying on Alderney for around a week.
Thanks in advance
Chris

Cycle & Surf Bike Hire Alderney

HI Gina
This section is more for reviews than questions. There's no problem asking the question, but the business may not see it for some time. The best way is to give them a call or send them an email. all their contact details are above on their advert. Hope you enjoy your trip to this wonderful island, and in our opinion hiring a bike is the best way to get around and see Alderney in its true beauty.

I see you hire electric bikes. Can you tell me what the range is? And how much of the island could we cover on your electric bikes in two or three days?

Quelle expérience fantastique nous avons eue sur les vélos en voyant cette île. Nous allions louer une voiture, mais nous avons été persuadés de prendre des vélos à la place. C'était le choix parfait. Merci pour votre aide et vos conseils.

Hi Helen
This section is more for reviews than actual questions. A lot of the businesses dont look at this section regularly, so you may not get an instant reply. Cycle and Surf contact details are on their listing above and a link through to their website where they have a list of the bikes they hire.
The Harbourguides Crew know them well and we feel sure theywill be able to sort something out for you that you feel comfortable and confident on.
Good luck and enjoy Alderney

Having lived on Guernsey for many years, I am ambarrased to say that I had never visited Alderney before and probably wouldnt have done so without the Pandemic. With little options available for a holiday we like many others decided to have a look. what a pleasant surprise! we have fallen in love with the place and its so easy for us to get to. I have to agree with the comments on here that the best way to discover Alderney is by bycicle and you wont find a more friendly family business anywhere than Cycle and Surf.

We have been reminiscing about our favourite destinations whilst we have been locked down here in England. Alderney is right up there in the top 3 and we would like to comment on the businesses that we found on our holiday, that made the trip more enjoyable and Cycle and Surf is a must service for visitors if you dont have your own bike. Pedal and electric, large and small all bikes are available for any family member and beleive us when we say, a bike is the best way to see this island, especially when the weather is favourable.
So tip one, get yourself a bike!

We are hoping to cruise the Channel Islands mid August to September. We will be visiting Alderney at some point (If allowed) Can we just turn up and hire bikes from you, ordo we have to prebook? We are only in the early stages of planning the trip and every week there seems to changes. Any information you can give us about cruising the islands would be great
Thanks and hope to be peddling around Alderney sometime soon.

There's a couple of bike hire companies on the island, one quite close to the harbour and this one on the way to the village. We chose this simply because it was on the guide. We were met by a very friendly guy, who we think was the owner. Very helpful and gave us good advice on where to go. We were not afraid of having the bikes stolen (Although we did keep them locked) and weather permitting it really is the idealic way to get to see Alderney. You need a moderate of fitness, but f you dont want too much effort try an electric bike. They have progressed so much over recent years. You deffinitely still have to put the effort in (Especially from the harbour to the village) but you can travel so much further and quicker. We hope to return the the Channel Islands this year and Alderney is one of the main draws for us. Its so important to spend a liitle with the comunity when visiting. The local businesses work very hard and really do rely on us spending a little for survival as much as we rely on them for providing us with the unique experience that only these small personal islands can.
The Almida Crew will be back soon xx

Well our summer cruising is now well and done for this year. we have just been looking back on our adventures from this year and our sailing adventures around the Channel Islands were definitely our most challenging, but also our most rewarding.
These beautiful islands all have their own character and we loved all these characters.
We have to be honest and say that we nearly didnt come to Alderney. We planned on Jersey, and Guernsey, with an overnighter at anchor on Sark. Well we are so happy that we decided to add Alderney to our travels. We felt so comfortable here that we did stay longer, and our only regret is that we hired our bikes for one day only!!. Big mistake. If you do make the trip to Alderney (And we strongly recommend that you do) and dont have bikes onboard, book them for the duration of your stay. We will on our return next June. We do have a couple of fold up bikes on the boat, but for a little extra cost it really is worth while to hire something more substantial ie Electric Bikes!! on a nice day, theses really are the best way to get around and also get plenty of excercise. Yes you still hav eto peddle, but its so much easier.
So thanks a lot for the bikes, and next year we will be having them for a longer duration and get to know this island better.

Well you have to hire a bike when coming to Alderney as it really is the best way to see the island. We actually had bikes on the boat, but we wanted to try out the electric bikes. All we can say is if you have never been on one of these modern electric bikes, please try one. They are such a pleasant experience. Lee and I are not getting any younger and would have struggled to see as much of the island as we did on peddle power alone. Very helpful man who served us and was genuinely interested that we had a good time. Well we did! See you next year.

Loved our adventures on Alderney on the bicycles. a car is definitely not necessary to discover this amazing and romantic island. Take a picnic with you, choose the right day and enjoy. we really did and have vowed to do it again later this year. Also the service was fantastic and very friendly. a family run business that gives you a really personal touch. They also have a clothes shop attached to it and there is a great range of ladies clothing.
See you very soon xx

Although we didnt hire any bikes from here as we have our own on board, our guests did so they could discover the island with us. I am glad they did, and next time we will hire electric bikes when visiting Alderney. We cycle everywhere on our sailin trips, but our standard peddle bikes could not compete with the electric ones provided by Cycle and Surf. We were taken aback by the speed and distance these bikes can travel, and although a certain amount of effort is needed, the ease they go up the hill ftom Braye Harbour is soul impressive.
Electric is the future for sure.

arriving hopefully in end of June/ July. Heard its quite hilly from the harbour to the village. Can there be a shortage of the electric bikes when many visitors are on the Alderney? If this happens can you order the bike in advance?

Lovely family run business, great bikes, really friendly advice and genuine people. There are other bike hire companys on the island and I can not comment on them as we have not used them.

We hired a couple of bikes from here and it really is the best way to get around the island. No problem parking etc. and not really a concern about the bikes getting stolen. really nice friendly service. Bikes for us from now on.

Landed in the marina and decided to walk into town. Nice walk but a bit hilly. looked on your site for bike hire and saw this place. Very friendly owners couldnt be more helpful and also offer electric bikes for those of us who dont want to make too much effort coming back and forward from the marina to town. If your visiting Alderney and dont want the hassle of hiring a car and finding parking places in town, go for the bike option. lots of fun and you will probably come back from your holiday lighter than when you arrived.

lots of choice and a really nice guy owns and runs it. He makes sure you get the right bike for you and the family.
Really the best way to meander around the island when the weather is nice

Best way to get around the island when the weather is nice. There are a few hills especially coming into town from the harbour so if you dont like the exercise hire one of their electric bikes, makes it really easy and you still get the exercise.

Lovely family run business. Best bike for hire on the island and if fashion is your thing, they also have a great clothes shop on the premises. Well worth the little walk from the harbour.
