Paul Smith

It is with great sadness that we report that Paul Smith has lost his valiant fight against cancer.

Paul has been a Harbourguides Crew member for the last ten years and will be missed greatly.

For those who knew him, we don’t need to tell you what a great guy he was, but for those who didn’t we would like to explain a little bit about his character.

Firstly, and most importantly he was a true gentleman that often-put others before himself. He loved giving people gifts, often contra deals,he rarely complained or moaned about life and took any knocks square on the chin, dusted himself down and carried on regardless. Always looking on the bright side, Paul’s glass was always half full, never half empty.

Career wise in our opinion Paul was one of the best salesman on the planet and responsible for the growth of Harbourguides. He would work anywhere for us, always optimistic that it would be a success and it invariably was.

The last year or so Paul’s health deteriorated and was diagnosed with throat cancer. It was at an advanced stage and required major life changing surgery. Once again Paul didn’t complain or feel sorry for himself, he just took the attitude of I can beat this.

The operation sadly was not a success, but once again, very few complaints from him. He fought his illness full on, still smiling and being as positive as anyone could be in his position.

Nobody could recover from his illness, not even Paul and sadly in the early hours of Saturday the 27th May 2017 Paul died in a hospice with his family at his side.

So here’s to our Mr Smith, you were unique, quirky, kind and a loyal friend. Your glass was truly always half full and we are going to miss you x

We had the pleasure of spending a wonderful few days in Barcelona with Pith in a hotel that he had secured through a contra deal. We had a brilliant time and I don't think we stopped laughing from beginning to end and Adam enjoyed sharing his love of Kung Fu films! We also stayed in Cornwall for a long weekend and my favourite memory was Pith demonstrating how to use the telescope outside........ He told me that what i was looking at was the moon..........I couldn't actually see a thing but he was very convincing so I sat there for a good 10 minutes trying to focus this telescope only to discover that the lens cap was still on. Pith at this point was back inside the hotel no doubt having a good laugh. Pith you were a true character and gave me a lot of joy in the short times we were in each others company and we are all certainly worse off with you not being around. God bless, safe journey and keep them all laughing. Much love xxx

First encountered Paul in 1978 when he was knocking about with Danny Pemberton (RIP). What a good lad and genuine too. At least if they need any space selling up there they've got the right man for the job now. What a shame. RIP Paul.
