Visiting Guernsey
We are looking for a change of location this year closer to home and the Channel Islands are on our hit list. We live in the UK and intend flying over or getting a ferry sometime in July. Who do we speak to regarding advice on what we have to do before arriving? We have never been before so we have noprior experience. Is there a number we can call wherfe we can get advice?

Sailing In Guernsey
We are planning to sail to Guernsey late June providing no changes in the pandemic problems. We hope to charter a boat from the Plymouth area. We intend visiting Alderney first and then move on to Guernsey, Sark and Jersey before returning homeend of August. We have our own boat in Greece but this year we are trying something different. It has been a long time since I have sailed in tides as strong as these so we are planning very carefully.
We dont want or cant afford to stay in marinas for the whole duration and was looking for advice on anchorages and swinging moorings.
Thanks

Visiting Guernsey
Hi we are planning holidaying in Guernsey this year. We have never visited before but we are looking for an island thats part of the uk and a little closer to the sun. Having looked through the different Channel Islands we have decided on Guernsey and maybe an overnight stay on Sark. We are a family of 4 two children aged 9 and 12. What is the best family hotel on the islands? (Guernsey and Sark)

Well we are back home now from our three months cruising holiday on our yacht Almida.
We spent almost six weeks cruising around the Channel Islands. We used the guide's and noticed that it seems customary to leave reviews on the businesses for future visitors.
Well we visited so many over this period of time, so we will be posting our reviews over a period of time.
It's trying to remember our experiences in each case.
Anyway we are going to give it a try.
Hope you're visitors to the guide's find our comments of use when making decisions on where to go.

Hi

We used your guides for the Channel Islands on our Summer sailing trip and found them very useful. we have left what we think are usefull comments on the businesses we visited while we were on the Island. Hopefully it will help the users of the guides when choosing a service etc.

We visited Guernsey this year and used your Harbourguide for information. We found it very useful and we visited quite a number of businesses on the guide. (especially the bars and restaurants) we have left comments on our experiences. Although we visit the Channel Islands quite regularly we did descover new and different businesses here on Guernsey and the Jersey and Alderney.
We hope our comments help others using the guides to decide where to go and what to expect.
Thanks

The Restaurant at Beaucette Marina
We moored up in St Peter Port. Stayed there for a couple of days then hired a car to see more of the island. Drove to Beaucette Marina to try this restaurant. We loved it. As others on here have commented, this is a complete contrast to St Peter Port, the setting for the restaurant is stunning as the marina is extremely beautiful. The atmosphere is very laid back and relaxing. The restaurant is run by lovely staff and Valerie made us feel very welcome. The food and service were of a high quality. Unfortunately the marina can not accommodate our boat, but it will not stop us from returning by land in the future. All I can say is if you are visiting Guernsey by whatever means, boat, car, plane, ship etc. take the time to take a visit to Beaucette marina and try out this restaurant.
Thanks A&J xx

La Grande Mare Hotel
Hire a car and get away from the marina and come over to La Grande Mare. Its so different to St Peter Port. we really felt that we were on holiday. Located in a lovely part of the island (West coast) rugged coastline and extremely picturesque. Leave the boat in the marina and head out here. Book the in-laws or guests in the hotel, they will love it.
See you in 2018

I see you are updating your Channel Islands Harbour Guides. I have friends from Northern France who are sailing to Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark etc. this Summer. We are going to visit them and help out crewing etc. but dont want to stay on the boat full time and are looking for accommodation. I see you have an accommodation feature on Harbourguides, is this for holiday makers or for crew members? We are on a tight budget and I think a feature on budget price hotels on your guides would be a goods idea.

Taj was the restaurant of choice last week, and passed the test with flying colours.
It has been a while since my last indian, so I went with the standard Lamb Tikka starter followed by Garlic Chilli Chicken (asked for it to be toned down just a little) and they got it just right.

Unfortunately or fortunately as the case may be went for Tennerfest at Barberie Hotel only to find closed due to staff party, then went to Auberge but that was also closed and ended up at Saints Bay Hotel and it was great.
Beef Wellington was my choice and judging by the quality of the food is worth going long after the tennerfest is finished.

Hi there H.G.C. I think you need to find some charter boats for Guernsey, as at the moment there are non that I can see.
I can only attribute this to the fact that nobody wants to charter on both sides of the equation due to the 'delightful' rugged coastline on this beautiful island, apart from the experienced fisherman who have eyes in the back of their heads.
Good Luck, and aside from this will continue to keep patrolling the site in the new year.

Took yacht insurance out with Rossbborough, and hoped we would never need to use them. However the day came when we needed their services after an extremely expensive accident aboard our yacht. We were apprehensive, as we had had a bad experience with another insurance company some years earlier. This time though our fears were unfounded. The service and peace of mind that was given us by this company was second to non. We have been paid out, with no fuss. We have no hesitation in recommending this company to anyone.
Thanks

Hi - Iam trying to trace info on my gtgrandfather who was said to have been a Guernsey harbour master. His name was John Palmer from Yorkshire England. He was married in Vale Guernsey to Julia LeMaitre in 1859 and was there building a family until late 1860's so would suggest that was during his time as harbour master. Do you hold records that far back please. Family were in France in early 1870's and don't think they returned to Guernsey. Many thanks from Pat

Had the pleasure of staying in The Imperial Hotel at Portelet Harbour, what a sun trap from 6.00am til 9.00pm. Also tried the fish and chips, or as the waitress said (eez the biggest fish in the island) which has to be said was correct. Freshly caught with home made chips. Give it a go.

Some forums have been giving St Peter Port a hard time recently, but John Bailey wrote in Yachting Monthly;"I used the marina 5 times last summer and found the staff helpful and sensible. The only challenges were created by some of the marina users that had boats were that were too big for them to handle comfortably. If only they would learn to relax and follow the advice of the friendly marina staff"

Rebellion Pizza
Seems a bit of an injustice to just label this as a pizza restaurant because its far more than that. There are lots of other options on the menu, but if Pizza is your preference, Rebellion pizzas are right up there with the best. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and very atmospheric. The staff are friendly and helpful, and they serve a mean cocktail. We didnt book a table and had no problem getting in, however it was out of season and early in the night. It was getting very busy by the time we left so I would advise booking. Would we recommend Rebellion Pizza/ a 100% yes we would, and not just for their pizzas.

Sorrento
We ate and drank at Sorrento a few times on our jollies. Great to call in for a drink on a nice day and get one of the outside tables and do a bit of people watching (The location is opposite the harbour) and also perfect for our evening meals.(They also do lunchtime meals) they have the right blend of atmosphere, with really friendly staff. The restaurant is pretty large and has a ground and first floor dining area. They get a nice blend of locals and tourists dining and this makes for a really vibrant atmosphere, they sometimes have live entertainment on which is also a bonus. The food is Italian themed hence the name Sorrento. It was definitely one of our favourite places to go to on our holiday and we are already looking forward to returning again next year.

La Perla Restaurant by Sue & Kyle
La Perla Restaurant
We had been in Guernsey for a week before we decided to eat at La Perla. We hadn't had any bad experiences in any of the restaurants we had eaten in, but we did find them pretty expensive. The previous comments on here suggested that La Perla Restaurant was one of the best value for money restaurants in Guernsey. They were spot on, we had fillet steaks fine wines starters desserts etc. The bill was literally half of what we had been paying in some of the other restaurants and the food and service was equally as good. We ate hear on a weekend and we made a reservation, I'm glad we did as it got very busy later in the night. The atmosphere was vibrant and we had a fantastic night without breaking the bank

What a find this little gem is. As the comment above says The guy can pretty much fix anything! He will try and fix something rather than order a new part, and its so refreshing to see that these types of marine engineer are still around. There was an old Volvo Penta engine in the workshop that he had rebuilt, and it looked like it had just come out of a Volvo Penta factory. Highly recommended!!

Lovely Setting overlooking the marina. The restaurant is on the first & second floor of the building so has elevated views of the harbour. We chose the calamari and the Atlantic prawns for starters which were perfect and Shaun had steak and I had a seafood linguini, these were also delicious. We had a couple of bottles of wine from the list. The waiter was helpful without trying to oversell. The bill was pretty average price for a restaurant of this quality and location. Would we go again? 100% YES!!!

Good Rebel Guernsey
Large modern beautifully decored eatery on the outskirts of St Peter Port town centre next to the Premier Inn Hotel. We had a meal here every day whilst we were in Guernsey ranging from breakfast to brunch. The staff are quick and efficient and the atmosphere is bustling with a lot of locals eating here. Its obvious as soon as you enter the building that there has been a lot of thought and money gone into the design and decoration. The food befits any top restaurant we have been to and there is also outside dining area. Although we stuck to breakfast and brunch menus, there is a varied menu some great dishes. There's no negative remarks we could say about our visits here.

Beaucette Marina by Davey K & Crew
Beaucette Marina
Beautiful secluded marina in Vale Guernsey. The pros are its definitely the most picturesque marina in the whole of the Channel Islands, its well sheltered, It has a fantastic restaurant and bar, its very quiet and secluded. The cons are that if you want to visit St Peter Port regularly, without a car can be a bit inconvenient, but there is a bus service. The other topic that is brought up is that the entrance looks daunting, but I can assure anyone with a moderate amount of seamanship that as long as you enter in the right conditions there isn't a problem. For those visiting without a boat, there is a camp site for campervans and some beautiful self catering "Shepherds Huts" that are for rent. Beaucette Marina is a lovely environment to be in.

They say good things come in small packages and Gusto is no exception. This delightful little Italian restaurant is full of charm and has typical Italian friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant is just off the main street and is pretty small so I would suggest booking in advance. Definitely one to visit.

As we approached the restaurant it looked very small from the outside and we wondered if we were at the right restaurant? However on entering the inside we were reassured that we were in the right restaurant. Its excactly as the photos portray it and the restaurant goes right to the back, is beautifully furnished and has lots of character. The staff, the food the service were all fantastic and we would highly recommend visiting Da Nello's. We will definitely come again. 10 out of 10 from us!!

I dont normally enjoy our trips to chandlers on our sailing ventures unlike my husband who studies every isle and every shackle etc. making it pretty boring for me. Boatworks is a complete different story though for me. I let Rich take as much time as he wants studying all the parts whilst I do a bit of retail therapy on the extensive range of clothing they have on offer. It feels more loke going clothes shopping than a boring trip to a chandlers. making us both happy. well done Boatworks Guernsey!

We came here with the family to take a look at the famous gardens. However we were very pleasantly surprised to discover that there is far more to Sausmarez Manor than their stunning gardens. Thers a pitch and put golf course, tourist train shops and a café. You can also take a tour of the beautiful building. The owner still lives here, hie name is Peter Sausmarez and has some wonderful stories to tell. Our favourite bar and eatery on the island. Can get pretty lively, especially at weekends, but we always managed to get served easily and quickly. Not far to stagger back to the boat, which is always an added bonus.

What a Gem this restaurant is. We were surprised how big it is once you are inside because it only looks small from the outside. Its full of character and was very busy when we ate here, but the service was fast and friendly. The food was spot on and typical Italian. A really enjoyable experience.

Saltwater Restaurant Guernsey
I called into Beaucette Marina as I was looking for a berth for a boat I was buying in Guernsey. I was taken away with the natural beauty of the marina, but what made it even more appealing was the Saltwater Restaurant. We managed to get a table on the terrace. What a view and the food, drinks and service could not be faulted. Sadly the sale of the boat fell through so we never did get a berth at the marina, but it wont stop us from coming back here. we had been to guernsey several times before and had never ben to Beaucette, so to anyone reading this that is coming to Guernsey, choose a nice day and spend it here.

Lovely marina with a fantastic restaurant and Shepherd Huts accommodation. Its without doubt the most picturesque marina in the whole of the Channel Islands. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The entrance can look a bit daunting at first, but if you choose the right conditions and (Both weather and tidal) its quite easy, and well worth it.

The last time We were in Guernsey this was a different restaurant with different owners. We decided to give it a try as the location and the photos looked great. All I can say is that it is now ten times better than before and is run and owned by a very experienced owner that has a reputation for serving up great food. We all chose seafood and it was first class. I personally had the Monkfish and it was cooked to perfection. We will be eating here again soon for sure.

If food or with a view is your bag, then look no further than Saltwater Restaurant at Beaucette Marina. Elevated just above the marina (See 360 tour on this advert) the view is spectacular and there is always something to look at to draw your attention, ie. boats entering or leaving the narrow entrance to the marina, mooring up and generally having fun. There's a large outside seating area that can be quite a sun trap and we spent many an hour or three just sitting here soaking up the atmosphere. Its onlly a short journey from St Peter Port ( 10 to15 minutes in car) but choose a sunny day and you will keep coming back.

Some people described this as good pub food, but its much better than that. The setting is more in the style of a nice pub but the food is definitely restaurant standard.Very generous helpings, so if you have a good appetite this is the place for you.

Yes Helen from Janchila, great to see a toni&guy when you arrive looking like you have been dragged through a hedge backwards after a rough crossing. This is what I love about these guides, they are not just about sailing, but they seem to know what sort of things we need when we arrive. Well done I think

As we were moored up in St Peter Port we visited many bars and restaurants in the area. This was our favourite in St Peter Port. Jeane liked it because he thought it was like an English pub. I liked it for the food. Lovely atmosphere and staff. If you have a good appetite you will appreciate the dishes.
Well worth visiting, we will certainly re-visit next year.

Dont walk pass this restaurant. It looks small from the outside, but once you enter its like a tardis. Lots of space with quiet parts. we came in with a charter crew of eight and was easily accommodated. There was also plenty of couples dining, we all seemed to join in in conversation. Made for a great night with mouth watering food and lovely staff.
See you again soon
