Information
SOUTHAMPTON
A vibrant modern City, the centuries old port of Southampton is amongst the most fascinating settlements on the UK’s South Coast. As one would imagine the city’s focal point is the fabulous harbour, which offers an eclectic mix of old and new facilities that cover virtually every aspect of nautical activity and interest. It is homeport to some of the most famous ocean liners in the world including QE2, Oriana and Arcadia. Along with first-class marinas with their copious moorings and services for pleasure craft the harbour offers visitors a wealth of other attractions. The incredible Leisure World takes pride of place complex. There you will find a multi-screen cinema, a casino, sports bar, bowling alley and choice of restaurants.

In town there is even more on offer with countless heritage sites, theatres, fine dining and a pub scene you would be hard pushed to match anywhere else in the country. Southampton’s shopping is legendary and has long been ranked in the UK’s top ten retail destinations earning the nickname ‘Emporium of the South’. Highlight of the shopping week is the General Market, which is home to over 90 stalls offering a mind-boggling array of wares and produce.

Culture vultures will be drawn to the splendid Old town, which dates back to medieval times. There you can stroll by myriad architectural wonders once visited by the likes of William the Conqueror, Henry V, William Shakespeare and Jane Austin to name just a few. Night owls will also be very impressed with the city after dark. Not only are there more bars than you can visit in a week, Southampton also boasts some of the best nightclubs in the country making it almost too easy to dance every night away completely. There’s also a happening music scene – you can fall out of a rock bar and a few doors down the road fall into a jazz lounge or funk club.

Whatever you are looking for from a break, Southampton will have something to satisfy your tastes. It is a truly exciting modern city with an ancient heartbeat that leaves you breathless and often inspired. A city that really has to be seen to be believed and a city that simply has to be seen full stop.

Hi Jed Sally and crew
Great news!!ALL of our guides are available in a printed version..And completely free of charge. There is a "Download Blue Pages PDF" tag at the top of each page on every one of our guides(We may soon be replacing this with an even easier option)You can print the guide off from here completely free of charge..Don't worry it doesn't cost us any extra either, so print some for your friends!!

Found your guide very useful while in Southampton and the Hamble, will be using you again in other areas, However a printed guide would be very useful when it is not possible to get internet connection, although this would incur more costs to yourselves is this something you will consider in the near future as we would certainly purchase one provided the cost was low?

Rigit UK - Masts, Spars & Rigging Specialists by Nick Pannell
Pawel promised repair to my masts and new rigging. It was eventually done and I have a serviceable and more importantly a saleable boat. But it was a struggle. I hope he manages to fet out of trouble.

Do not use this company.
They owe customers THOUSANDS because of either badly done, unfinished, or not started work.
They owe me £15k, and others even more than that.

J & S Fresh Fish
What a pleasant surprise it was to see that there was a fish mongers in Shamrock Quay. We were staying on a friends boat and saw the photos revolving photos on here. We were responsible for the cooking on the boat as we have a restaurant in Spain. J & S Fresh Fish made our job so easy. Believe me, we are used to getting fresh fish in Villanova Spain where our restaurant is, but this shops fresh fish is as good as anywhere. The owners and staff have a genuine enthusiasm for their work and this is why the produce is so good.

We love a bit of spice to our food without blowing our heads off, and Chilli Flames offers you the choice. If you loke a bit of spice, great and if you like it VERY hot, they can also accommodate. Very affordable prices and they offer all the delivery options if you cant get to the shop.

We haven't eaten in every Indian restaurant in Southampton, but I don't think we could find a better one than this if we did. This really is Indian cuisine at its finest. I only wish we had discovered it earlier on our stay in Southampton. The Bayleaf Kitchen is one of the best Indian restaurants we have visited.

My girlfriend and I recently visited the boat house for two nights at Harbour Guides, a fantastic spot for rentals and delicious eats. We opted for food from Chilli Flames, Bedford place, and it was a delightful experience! The burgers and wraps were bursting with flavor a lot variety of spices. Lemon annd herb being my favourite which I would recommend others to try and the service from Harbour Guides was top-notch. A perfect choice for a cozy date night!

The Red Lion by Frances Webb
The Red Lion Southampton
We decided to come here after seeing the photos and tour on this guide as it looked like it was steeped in history. It certainly is and the whole place is extremely atmospheric. The menu offers a large choice of food including pub favorites, steaks, pasta etc. however they also offer Indian cuisine as the pub is owned by the same owners as the Bayleaf Kitchen Indian restaurant which is next door. So the quality of the Indian food served here is far superior than any other pub we have visited.

Bayleaf Kitchen
Paul loves Indian food and there are a few to choose from when coming to Southampton. We chose the Bayleaf Kitchen because of the reviews on this site and we made the right choice. Only small inside which makes it more cosy and the service is spot on and the owner is very helpful without being pushy.
