Information
Kinsale in County Cork is one of the most picturesque, popular and fashionable resorts of the south-west coast of Ireland. Famous for its beautiful yachting, sea angling, gourmet restaurants and golf. For those of you who would like to improve your English, there is the excellent Kinsale School of English and Art galleries

Kinsale can easily claim its place amongst Ireland's most historic locations for this has been a centre of population, commerce, trade and fishing far beyond memory and record. In its earliest days the estuary of the Bandon River gave it great importance as the river is tidal as far as Innishannon and water transport was dominant until the 18th Century.

The estuary also provided excellent anchorage for ancient shipping which went in peril of the vagaries of the weather.

The Town nestles between the hills and the shoreline, a maze of narrow streets, never far from the water and little changed in many hundreds of years. Amongst buildings of later periods are those of another age with historical links to the French, Spanish, British and Americans.

Hello,

My wife and I are American, and have been living aboard our 12-meter sloop in Ipswich, UK the past two winters. For next winter, we are looking for alternatives and thought that Southern Ireland would be a possibility. Friends have suggested Kinsail.

Can you briefly tell us whether your berths are suitable for living aboard in the winter. Also, are there any other liveaboards or would we be pretty much on our own? Finally, can you tell us the approximate cost to winter afloat (say Oct 1 thru March 31)?

Many thanks

Just visited the Emerald Isle and found your guide very useful. Kinsale seems very up to date, but some of the other Irish sites seem to need updating. How oftem do you update?

The Bulman Bar is steeped in tradition, full of character, has history in abundance and with an atmosphere that cannot be described. All of this as a result of time and tradition. For all these attributes, the bar proudly hangs its “Black and White Pub of the Year Award”.
Toddies restaurant
With our seaside location and Kinsale's sheltered harbour, Toddies is a great place to be in fine weather. You can wander out to the seafront and sit on the wall while enjoying a bowl of Oysterhaven Mussels or locally caught Lobster, looking out at the Atlantic Ocean. It is equally as enjoyable on a Winters night with the open log fires burning, dinner in the bar or upstairs in the restaurant, banter every night and live music four nights a week.

Kinsale Crystal
It is no accident that Waterford Master-Cutter, Gerry Daly, chose the town of Kinsale, Irelands oldest town, to set up his Crystal Venture. Gerry longed to revive the formerly extinct method of Deep-Cutting.

Long ago in Ireland, way before mass production swallowed up the small one man Crystal Craft Shops, every single piece was cut with pride on high angled wheels. This method was extremely tedious and painstakingly slow, but resulted in the most brilliant reflective sparkle and sharp, crisp feel.

Armed only with a vision and a dream, in 1992 Gerry left Waterford and set off in search of a suitable location to fulfil his dream. When Gerry first entered Irelands Oldest Town, Kinsale, he knew immediately that the search was over. This fascinating, quaint, old world seaport with its narrow little streets and spectacular coastal scenery was the perfect setting for Gerry's project.

The Lord Kingsale
The Lord Kingsale, spelt as in the old medieval English way and as the medieval town was known Kingsale, is one of the oldest establishments in Kinsale. Serving ale in the town for some two hundred and fifty years The Lord Kingsale was leased from the gentry in 1778, the documented figure on the lease was the staggering sum of one old penny per annum.
Throughout the year the evening programme varies from traditional Irish songs, music and poetry. The overall welcoming, friendly and homely atmosphere that The Lord Kingsale possesses in plenitude is due to the fact that the Mortimers treat the premises as an extension of their own home: and their customers as an extension of their ever increasing circle of friends.
