GIBRALTAR
Situated at the gateway to the Mediterranean, Gibraltar enjoys a delightful sub-tropical climate and boasts some of the best marine based activities in the world. The city’s three marinas are regarded as being amongst the finest in Europe, offering plentiful berthing, excellent marine services and much more. Queensway Quay, located right in the centre of town, is a British naval base, it is also a popular place to dine and drink with numerous bars and restaurants situated around the harbour sides. Marina Bay offers 24hr service and has over 200 berths with state-of-the-art computerised TV and satellite facilities. The tranquil, yet tidal conditions of the harbour make Gibraltar a favourite destination for yachtsmen seeking to attain sailing qualifications and the various schools offer courses ranging from Competent Crew to the most advanced RYA certificates.
Besides the excellent weather, gorgeous scenery and wonderful beaches Gibraltar’s biggest attraction is it’s duty free/VAT status and the area around Main Street is a paradise for those addicted to retail therapy. Here you can buy up-market clothing, jewellery, leather goods and perfumes at truly affordable prices. Casemates Square at the end of Main Street was once a place of public executions but today it is the liveliest place in town, filled with trendy outdoor restaurants, stylish cafes and busy bars. The city has entertainment to suit all, from theatre to cinema, casino to dance club, but don’t expect any early nights.
Gibraltar really does have it all. A vibrant and stunning centre steeped in history; some of the best water sports, diving and fishing to be found in the Europe; nightlife second to none; scenery to die for; prices that are definitely right and a friendly ambience it would be difficult to match anywhere else in the world. Is it any wonder that visitors to this most beautiful of cities return time after time? FOR MARINE FUEL CONTACT CEPSA LISTEN TO THIS MONTHS SOUND CLOUD

Again, we are not qualified to answer. Travel restrictions are changing all the time. The fight is only four or five weeks away, so I think there will have to be some extreme changes before this is possible. But keep positive

BUDGET EATING TIP!
There's a tiny take-away place in Parliament Lane called MALAK BAGUETTE which does extraordinarily good-value filled baguettes. They cook the fillings to order (Moroccan chicken, Chicken Tikka, all kinds) and charge just £2.80. There's a few scruffy tables outside or you can take away. One of these will fill you for the day, and they're super-fresh. Its about ten mins walk from Marina Bay, through the arches onto Casemates Sq, cross the square onto Main Street and Parliament Lane is the first on the right. Highly recommended. I often bring a couple back to the boat.

Yes, Gibraltar has good yacht facilities in its 3 marinas.Marina Bay is probably the most 'yachtie' of all if you want to hook up with other sailors. But the pubs and bars are raucous and the atmosphere certainly isn't what you'd call elegant. Queensway Quay more fits the 'sedate' bill with a few nice restaurants. Its a tiny bit further from the town centre but still only 10 mins walk.
I entirely disagree with the suggestion in the notes that Gibraltar's main attraction is its duty free status. Yes, it may be for booze and fags, but certainly not for the kind of electronics and techno stuff that you might hope to score a big hit on in the high street. I've been coming to the Rock for 40 years and there's not a single item, whether its cameras, hi-fi, clothes, watches etc that you cant get cheaper in the UK, either in supermarkets or on-line. I dont know why this is, but its a fact. It may be that the traders, mostly Asian-run businesses, pocket the VAT difference and simply dine out of the duty free reputation. So do NOT come to Gib for bargains. Come for the history, the ok priced marinas, the excellent sail training and the reasonably straight-forward bureaucracy.

SEAWAVE BAR GIBRALTAR
I would highly recommend the seawave bar on Catalan bay, the staff are always friendly and will always remember a face, the owners of the bar Marilyn and Byron are great people and will always make sure your visit to the bar is a happy one!!! The food is great, and the locals will always speak to you and make you feel even more welcome, this is our home from home where we have spent many happy evenings. If you visit Gibraltar be sure to visit the seawave and find out for yourselves. You will not be disappointed.

Just enjoyed a leisurely 10 day jaunt in Gibraltar..Our main aim was to stop off and fuel up and head off to Sitges Spain. However due to maintenance problems we stayed a lot longer and now I have to say everything happens for a reason. We now love the place. We stayed at Marina Bay marina, no where near as expensive as some people had made out. We tried nearly ALL of the restaurants and bars you have on your guide, all while the excellent "Marine Maintenance Ltd" sorted out our engine problems. All in all we were all sad to leave, even miss picking up the paper from Albor in the morning.
So if you are passing Gib and are thinking to fuel up and head off as we did, why not hang around for a few days? We did and loved it.
Well done with the harbour guides guys! Great service for us yachty's

Wannabe Sailor Family
Hi
having visited Gibraltar this summer for our annual holiday, we are considering coming again next year. However we are very interested in completing a sailing course or courses as, i am considering buying a yacht that we can use as a family holiday base in the near future and would like all the family to be fairly competent.
There are many "Sailing Schools" in Gibraltar but have noticed that you do not promote any of them on your website..Is this due to the fact they dont advertise with you or is it that you do not endorse any of them?
We dont want to make the wrong decision on what could become a very important part of our lives as a family.
Would appreciate your feedback.
Thanks

Sacarellos Gibraltar
Loved this Irish Town part of Gibraltar especially this cafe restaurant bar. Never been to Gibraltar and new little about it. Came over as part of the boxing admin. All the staff have been talking about how good the event went and hope to put on other big shows in the future.
Rock Fish And Chips Gibraltar
Over here for the boxing and we come accross a typical English Chippy. Not cutting weight so why not. love it ...Come on Dillian!!
Biancas Bar & Restaurant Gibraltar
Sat outsude Biancas and just seen the man himself "THE SAVAGE" Looking as mean as ever but gave us a great big smile and hello. We love you Alen and look forward to your ring return. Good luck to Dill tomorrow. 7th tound KO win for Dillian!!
Gibraltar is buzzing. What an atmosphere and what a setting. Great experience for the young fighters and those making their debuts. And a solid victory for Dillian will top the night off!

Restaurants in Gibraltar
We noticed on the map that you are very close to Lord Nelsons Bar. We are going to be in Gibraltar on the 27th March. We hope to watch the boxing in Nelsons, but before the fight we will be having a meal and a few drinks with clients. How many people can be at per table? and what are the booking procedures?
The Lounge Bar Gibraltar
Hi Sharon, you will have to contact The Lounge Bar to ask. This is just a review section and most restaurants only view them periodically. Their details are above.
Good luck.
Oh and by the way, its a great bar restaurant. A couple of the Harbourguides Crew have visited before and rate it very highly!
Enjoy
Hoping to come over for the boxing. We can not get into the event but plan to watch it live in Gibraltar. We are a party of 4 (Adults)
The idea is to have a meal and drinks, then watch the show. Will you have the fight on? If not is there a sports bar close by that we can visit?
Any other advice on Gibraltar would be helpful.
Thanks
Shaz
Biancas Bar & Restaurant Gibraltar
Hi Laurence, Biancas Bar & Restaurant doesn't take bookings or reply to comments on here. Its more of a review section. But if you contact them direct on the details above, they will sort everything for you.
Thanks and good luck in the boxing
Biancas Bar & Restaurant Gibraltar
Coming over as part of a boxing team. do you take table bookings? and if so, what is the limit? ie per table and total numbers. The date will be 28th March.
Thanks
This is first visit for me to Gibraltar. I live in Barcelona. My boyfriend brings me to Biancas' and I like very much. I had the beef stroganoff and it was truly delicious. Thank you
Had breakfast on Monday and lunch on Tuesday. Service impeccable cleanliness superb! Beautiful atmosphere and suntrap if having lunch well done Biancas'
Will be coming over again in October (Covid permiting) look forward to seeing you all again. Hope you are all well and have had stayed safe K&S Derley Crew
Hi. We are a crew of 8 and are coming into Gibraltar hopefully within the next two weeks. We like the photos of your restaurant. Are you now open and will we need to make a reservation in advance?
Thanks
Nice relaxing bar restaurant with seating inside and outside. Well priced and used by locals and tourists. Food cooked before your own eyes, so everything is clean and on view.
A great place to eat and drink on a small budget.
Lovely restaurant right in the square. a well varied menu and quick responsive staff. All in all a very good experience and a restaurant we will eat here again soon.
Thanks.
one of our favourite restaurants/ cafes in Gibraltar. The Irish town is steeped in History and this place is full of knowledge of this history. Great place and a must visit when in Gibraltar.
I recently used the services of Optimum Marine to carry out a survey of my vessel. Oli Byles carried out the survey and I found the service professional, informative and courteous. I would recommend this company. John Heale
We love to get away from the tourist traps when sailing, This place tics all the boxes for us, full of locals very few tourists, great find for Harbourguides!
Didnt even know this marina was here until we saw your feature here. Great to get away from normal Gib (Nothing wrong with normal Gib) great change, we are looking into booking a berth here for next July
Oh by the way, the food here is FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love this place, Lots of Gibraltars history can be found here, the owner (Dont know his name) is extremely knowledgeable on Gibraltars history, especially Irish Town. Very interesting. Thers so much more to Gibraltar than the marina scene, and this comes from a yachty!!
If fish and chips is your thing, then look no further. Loads of room to sit outside in the sun or shaded. Right in the square, so great to watch the hustle and bustle while tucking into some good old English favourite of Fish and Chips
Lovely place away from most of the tourists. You can watch your food being cooked on the big griddle. Or sit outside and soak up the sun watching the world go by.
Wow what doesnt this place sell? from snacks, salads, full on meals, jams, art pictures, and more. You certainly wont be bored visiting here. Always seems busy with nice clientele.
Lovely place to sit and have a nice meal and drink. We only came here during the day and it was so tranquil watching people on thier boats pottering about. We didnt get chance to come in the evening, but we ill on our next visit
Annette made us very welcome on our two visits. Love the Irish Town and its bars, restaurants cafes and shops. A lot better value for money than Ocean Village.
Well this place has everything. If you want a snack they got it, if you want a full on meal, they got that too, if you want fine wines, yeah they have them too. All in all Sacarellos caters for pretty much everything and all to a very high standard.
This is a great find. If you want to get away from the tourist restaurants and bars this is the place for you. Mostly locals eating here and it does get busy, but has a great vibe about it. We loved it.
Stayed here for two nights as my partner wanted a bit of luxury after being on the boat for 10 days. Wish we could have stayed longer, the place is so relaxing. Was very difficult to get Jackie back on the boat.
Just called in for lunch and chose one of the various salads available. It was delicious. I will be back to try some of the other dishes that are on their menu.
Get to Irish Town and this place, you will not be dissapointed.
I think this is where we started our big night out. If I remember correctly there was special offers on cocktails. Great start to the evening, but take it easy on those cocktails, they come back to haunt you later lol x
If you like seafood, you will love this plaice (ha deliberate misspell) on a a serious note, we had one of the best meals of our holiday here. lovely ambience and at tentative staff.
we found this one on Harbourguides mobile location finder. We could have easily missed it, but as one of the previous visitors commented, we are delighted that we found it. Service, food, atmosphere all fantastic. Well worth a visit.
Loved the walk here from the marina. was good to get out of the marina and eat and drink somewhere else. It was a lovely afternoon and an experience we shall repeat.
To sum it up, it was a great day.
We almost walked past this place, but we are really glad we didnt. the menu was slightly different to what we normally go for, but we both really enjoyed it. We both thought that it was good value for money.
A real lively bar that seems popular with the locals as well as visitors. Great place to strike up a conversation, if you are in the mood, or also good to watch the world go by.
We really liked this place
We really enjoyed our meal here. We went in at lunchtime and the menu had something for all different tastes. The service was good and the staff friendly. The food was delicious.
Well worth a visit
Great lively pub. Always seems to be one of the busier bars in the area. TV screens show sports events so this seems to attract people. All in all a pleasant place to have a drink.
You cant come to Gibraltar without using this service. Its a great trip, with a nice little cafe at the top. when wandering around make sure you dont leave any bags open with food in, as the monkeys will have them! Great fun!
We are coming back over in August (Sailing Annabel)My parents wont be staying on the boat. Can you send me some prices for the first two weeks in August ? one double room, B&B only.
Great value for money. Our inlaws stayed here as they didnt want to stay on the boat (We were delighted). Made the stay a great one and helped us enormousley.
Can definitely recommend.
Good food, drinks and most importantly service.
I am staying in La Linea and saw Bianca's on the harbourguides website and came across to check it out. Very happy.
Gambas Pil Pil followed by Beef Tagine was the order of the day on last sunday's horrendous washout.
Was coming over from La Linea for Sunday Lunch, but due to fake bomb scare arrived late.
Was quite happy in the end though because these dishes complemented each other and were delicious.
This shop has been around for hundreds of years ( well the family has ) but if you do not find what you are looking for be it kitchen or general bits and bobs, there is something wrong as it is like an alladins cave.
Tried this place the other night, very good food and price.
Had strip of steak wrapped around onions and tomatoes with split baked seasoned potatoe, delicious and was only £3.50.
have stayed many times its a quiet street no traffic & I love the patio garden its unexpected in the town center, good value for money with good breakfast will stay again .
Great nights sleep and a good breakfast, nice that they have a bar also.
We stayed here a few weeks ago and are just summarising the good places we can remember from our visit.
Purchased my 10.1 Samsung tablet here about 2 years ago, still going strong and have passed it up to my DAD.
So treated myself to the latest version last week and am delighted.
Oh nearly forgot, the people in this shop will bend over backwards to assist you in anyway they can.
This place is fantastic, spoilt for choice when you have a decision to make where there is a choice, if that makes sense.
Check it out, you will see what I mean.

THE SHOP
The Sheppard’s name and famous blue logo has been familiar with yachtsmen cruising through the Mediterranean and further afield for over 50 years.
Sheppard’s used to be known as a small and friendly marina with a good chandlery shop and, even though the marina is now part of Ocean Village, the chandlery shop is still the one stop shop for yachties it has always been. It is located at the exit of the covered car park at Ocean Village.
The majority of yachts which make up the market in Gibraltar are serious, long distance cruisers. These boats are hard on their equipment and have quite different requirements to those of a day-boat or luxury day-cruiser.
Sheppard’s specialises in the sailing cruisers sector but also covers power cruisers and day boats. The standard stuff is all available, such as ropes, fenders, paints and pumps.
THE WORKSHOP
Sheppard’s workshop operates a repair service for most equipment found on a modern yacht and can replace rigging or install new hardware and systems.
We are dealers for Mercury Mercruiser and Volvo Penta engines with officially trained mechanics. While we specialise in Mercury and Volvo Penta engines we also service or repair the many other makes too.
We offer equipment installation, electrical system repairs, GRP repairs, spray painting, slurry blasting, rigging, stainless steel fabrication, machining and all mechanical repairs. We can haul out motor boats up to 5 tons displacement.
Yacht Electrics and Electronics
Sheppard’s Chandlery specialises in the sale and installation of Raymarine equipment, and prices are generally 15% below the UK RRP ex VAT.
Sheppard’s also offer Victron equipment at generally lower prices than are available in the UK including AGM Deep Cycle batteries View a 360° tour

We take our food (and our wine for that matter) very seriously at the Rock as we do your enjoyment of it! Our culinary style has unashamedly absorbed influences from both Iberia and north Africa as well as an obvious leaning to all that is good about modern British cuisine. Naturally we also take full advantage of our Mediterranean location and the abundance of seafood available on our doorstep. In fact, our main restaurant enjoys panoramic views across Gibraltar Bay and the Spanish mainland and Morocco's Rif mountains. We feature a daily changing "house menu" as well as a full seasonally changing à la Carte selection that we hope will delight you as you sip your complimentary glass of Manzanilla with our famous herb infused olives
Bar
The Barbary Bar, which opens out on to the Wisteria Terrace, is decorated in a style that incorporates a blend of colonial, Iberian and Moorish influences which literally reflect the aspect seen from its terrace.
Along with a fully stocked bar there is also a food menu from which guests can enjoy culinary delights that also reflect our geography and history from sandwiches and steak pies to tapas and tagines! The service is efficient and courteous from members of our team who have been with us for much of their working lives. Relax, listen to the hum of the ceiling fans, sip your favourite tipple and think of Noel Coward.

With its impressive backdrop of luxury apartments, restaurants, shops and bars, Queensway Quay Marina nestles in the heart of Gibraltar giving easy access to all of the attractions it has to offer.
Gibraltar has long been known as a convenient stop over for yachts en route to and from the Mediterranean, but we now also offer an excellent package for long term berthing in our newly expanded marina.
Queensway Quay Marina is one of the few places where it is perfectly safe to leave your yacht for long periods without any worries. Unlike harbours along the south coast of Spain which are often the hub of nightlife during high season yet deserted in winter, Gibraltar with its 30,000 population is a living town throughout the year. English is the common language and with its tax free status, is ideal for shopping and ordering those spare parts and accessories V.A.T free, not to mention the low cost of fuel.
Ragged Staff Wharf, as the quayside at Queensway Quay Marina is called, is probably the oldest wharf in Gibraltar. Of Spanish origin, Ragged Staff Wharf was developed by the British in 1736 under the supervision of First Lord of the Admirality Sir Charles Wager, with the purpose of providing 'better victualling of men-at-war'. Ragegd Staff Wharf also became the traditional landing place for newly-arriving Govenors of Gibraltar at the steps known as Govenor's Landing - which are still in use as part of the Marina.

Welcome to the Gibraltar Botanic Gardens.
The Alameda Gardens were founded in 1816 at the initiative of the Governor, General George Don in order to provide an area for recreation for the residents of Gibraltar. For many years they served this purpose but in the 1970s they fell into a state of disrepair. The Gibraltar Botanic Gardens project began in June 1991 when the Government of Gibraltar contracted a firm of environmental managers, Wildlife (Gibraltar), to restore the gardens and convert them into a botanic garden.
The Gardens therefore aim to: restore the aesthetic beauty and interest of the Alameda for the benefit of visitors to the gardens establish a living collection representative of Gibraltar and its hinterland; display a collection of plants from Mediterranean climatic zones around the world; contribute towards the conservation of the flora of Gibraltar and its hinterland; establish a collection of succulents from around the world; contribute towards the dissemination of information about plants, their economic value and their conservation by means of an active educational programme.

Live music every evening at the Lord Nelson in Casemates Square. Meals including our favourites such as British fish & chips and fresh mussels served day & night on their terrace and inside.
Our establishment was named "Lord Nelson" to commemorate England's most famous Admiral - one of the best-known military figures associated with the Rock. Gibraltar has strong connections with Nelson and the Battle of Trafalgar - Nelson's body was brought here after the battle (but there is some debate as to whether he actually came ashore before returning to England for the last time).
Our concept was for a Bar Brasserie, from the dictionary: beer salon, restaurant serving beer with food. Our cuisine offers innovative delights, from locally caught fresh fish to prime steak. Our extensive menu is supplemented by daily specials, governed by what is available from the boats and markets, this is not fast food - all our meals are freshly prepared and may take longer to arrive on your table than in some other establishments. The constantly updated wine list features the very best from Europe and the New World winemaking areas. We serve a vast selection of beers to suit any taste, 6 beers on tap served in traditional English pints and halves with a plethora of imported bottled beer, all from local distributors Anglo Hispano.
If you are visiting Gibraltar then we hope the old world atmosphere makes your visit to the Lord Nelson a memorable part of the Gibraltar experience; if you are one of our regular locals then we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your business.
We are very proud of our management team and staff, some of which you will meet on your visit. Good service is no mystery - just employ nice people!
We hope you enjoy your visit - may your ship enjoy fine weather and return to this port before many moons have passed!

Coming over as part of a boxing team. do you take table bookings? and if so, what is the limit? ie per table and total numbers. The date will be 28th March.
it’s difficult to guarantee or rule out anything at the moment. Things change every day. Let’s just hope the fight goes ahead and if we can’t attend, then its Sky Box Office or DAZN. Either way its going to be a great night!

With the new government guidelines that were released yeasterday, I think its still not possible to travel to gibraltar from UK unless you have official work etc,
Hi Si Z
Again, we are not qualified to answer. Travel restrictions are changing all the time. The fight is only four or five weeks away, so I think there will have to be some extreme changes before this is possible. But keep positive

A very easy informative website to use for us (not so young) internet users.
Thank You
Claire Arcus
I would highly recommend the seawave bar on Catalan bay, the staff are always friendly and will always remember a face, the owners of the bar Marilyn and Byron are great people and will always make sure your visit to the bar is a happy one!!! The food is great, and the locals will always speak to you and make you feel even more welcome, this is our home from home where we have spent many happy evenings. If you visit Gibraltar be sure to visit the seawave and find out for yourselves. You will not be disappointed.
Just opposite the bus station on the inside wall(goes all the way through to the street with a big glass extension)
Persuaded them to make it for me and was absolutely delicious.
Going to see if it is possible to have it put on the menu, watch this space.
Delicious and massive portions.
26th JAN - Thur FEB 5th 2015, so be warned if searching for last minute stay.
Let's just say she has been converted.
Favourite eating places, Case Pepe, and The Landings.
You will not be disappointed.
Could be a trap but who cares, the night is young and I am let off the leash without asking.
Great site, and it was her brother who told us to have a look when we told him we were passing through.
Cheers.
See for yourself next time you are wandering around the Marina.
Landings is a little bit out of main area, but would say give it a go if only staying one night.
Maybe small but full of goodies all being the latest.
Good breakfast and cosy bar also.
Worth looking at but you can get bus also takes about 10 minutes and are quite frequent.
They flew out of my shirt pocket ahead of me as I jumped onto the boat.
They flew out of my shirt pocket ahead of me as I jumped onto the boat.
Casa Pepe in the Marina nearest Rock Hotel was one of the best places we ate at, have a look for it.
Arrived late in Gib and found Cannon Hotel on your site, and saved the day as I was having a problem finding anywhere to stay, nice and handy for everything and great prices.
Cheers

In reply to the "Wannabe Sailor Family" we are currently in Gibraltar and will have a reputable charter and sailing school featured here in the next few days.
Hope you and your family really enjoy your sailing and that it does indeed become an important part of your lives.
having visited Gibraltar this summer for our annual holiday, we are considering coming again next year.
Thanks
bye bye
OK rant over..other than that i have loved using this guide and will tell all!!
