I booked a car rental with XS Plus Rent a Car for a trip to Greece from August 9th to August 21st. My initial reservation, confirmed by Chrysanthi via email on June 14th, was for a Hyundai Elantra 1600cc at a rate of €700. A week before my trip, I reached out to confirm the booking and was informed that instead of the Hyundai Elantra, we would be provided with a Hyundai Matrix. This change was fine with me, and I assumed the car would be in good condition.
The company met us at the airport for pickup, which was convenient. However, upon receiving the vehicle, I was disappointed. The Hyundai Matrix provided was a 2007 model—a 17-year-old car. The car had only half a tank of gas, which is unusual for a rental, and it was visibly dirty on the inside, with grime buildup on the gear shift and steering wheel (I have pictures to support this). Additionally, we were instructed to stop at the first gas station to put air in one of the tires.
Despite my initial concerns, I decided to proceed with the rental, as I was exhausted after traveling for 11 hours. During the trip, it became evident that the car was underpowered and felt very old. Towards the end of our stay, the car battery died, requiring a jump start and a visit to a mechanic to replace the battery. We also had to refill the tires with air again as they were losing pressure.
On the positive side, when we dropped off the car, XS Plus did pay for a taxi to our Airbnb, which I appreciated, though I feel it was the least they could do given the circumstances.
In hindsight, I believe I overpaid for this rental given the condition of the vehicle provided. If you’re not bothered by the issues I mentioned, you might find the service acceptable. However, based on my experience, I cannot recommend XS Plus.
