WALLABY ON M55 Thursday January 21st, 2010
ImageWALLABY HALTS M55
The M55 motorway in Blackpool was brought to a standstill whilst police tried to apprehend and escaped wallaby. Following a 999 call from several motorist RSPCA inspectors entered into a four hour chase with the marsupial which only came to an end when a Blackpool Zoo vet was called in. The wallaby was then cornered in a garden and the vet used a tranquiliser dart to subdue the animal.
Inspector Alistair Campbell said, 'Eventually we were able to usher the wallaby away from the M55... It's fair enough to say we've never had a situation like this before. We had to consult the RSPCA to help us work out how to capture the wallaby.'
The animal is now safely at home with its owner.
