VENDEE GLOBE-THE END IS NEAR

NEW RECORD FINISH IN SITE FOR VENDEE LEADER.
With only 700 miles and closing between Michael Desjoyeaux and Les sables d’Olonne the distance between him and second place Roland Jordain is more than twice as far. Meanwhile Jourdain is caught in light breezes off the Azores high pressure system.
But it isn’t necessarily plain sailing for the Vendee pack leader as forecasters say he may still have to race to the finish line in order to miss out on a potentially damaging weather system across the Bay of Biscay. The contrary breezes could potentially set him back and cause him to miss out on beating the 87 days, 10 hours & 47 minutes mark set by Vincent Riou in the 2004-2005 Vendee Globe. To beat the record Desjoyeaux will need to cross the finish line before 23.29 on February 4th.
But it all academic of course and with his latest ETA between 15.00 January 31st and 00.00 February 1st the Fonica skipper looks set to make it and set a new record of around 83 days. Phileas Fogg would be proud.
