THE ORIGIN OF RUMMAGE SALE Friday July 03rd, 2009
RUMMAGE SALEYet another anglicized French term, ‘rummage’ is derived from the word ‘arrimage’ which means ‘the loading of cargo. In a precursor to the car boot sale occasionally damaged cargo would be sold off in special warehouse sales, run presumably by drunken British sailors who spoke French very badly.
