At long last high quality sonar equipment is becoming affordable to the pleasure industry, with the Humminbird 1197 coming in at only £999. With an excellent 10.4inch colour display (also available in 5,7,8 or 10inches) this little baby can scan to range of 240ft either side of your boat.

Ideal for wreck location or fishing the unit uses either transom-mounted or hull transducer. The 1197 is so good, claim hummingbird, that it is already being used by Search and Rescue services and divers.

There are a lot of new gadgets available that do similar stuff for less right now, but the 1197 really is the business and it’s also an awful lot of fun.
