SKIPPER SHOT DEAD IN ANTIGUA

SKIPPER SHOT DEAD IN ANTIGUA Tuesday January 27th, 2009
Image38-year-old, skipper Drew Gollan of the 163ft Perini Navi ketch Perseushas has been shot dead outside the Gallery Bar on Falmouth Harbour, Antigua. According to witnesses the Australian was shot in front of his partner, Alena and a young child.

The incident occurred when they were walking home after dinner and were attacked by a person trying to grab Alena’s bag. Apparently the attacker had a gun, which went off, grazing Alena’s foot. Gollan then went in pursuit of the attacker and was shot twice in the chest during a struggle.

No one has yet been arrested in connection to the shooting as police wait to interview Alena about the incident. There have been a number of other violent incidents in the area, including an armed robbery at a club and an attack on two yacht hostesses. Many people have complained that police are not doing their job properly. Indeed took over twenty minutes for police to arrive at the scene of Gollan’s shooting.

This is the height of the charter season for Antigua and business is being affected badly. According to contacts several yachts are leaving the island earlier than planned
