RESCUE MISSION FOR COMPETENT SWIMMERS

RESCUE MISSION FOR COMPETENT SWIMMERS Tuesday August 10th, 2010
Mudeford lifeboat was called into action when two people were reported as being in difficulty off Hengistbury Head on Monday evening. Portland’s Coast guard helicopter and Southbourne Coastguard Rescue Team were also called out. However the costly rescue mission turned out to be a waste of time when it was revealed that the people spotted waving in the water were actually a couple practicing water aerobics.
After both swimmers swam ashore a Coastguard spokesman described them as ‘competent’ and added, 'It's easy to see how the misunderstanding occurred.'
