NON STOP SAILING RECORD Tuesday June 29th, 2010
The Guinness Book of Records is checking into a claim by a man who says he has set the record for the longest non-stop passage. Reid Stowe was greeted by his girlfriend and 23-month old child when he docked in New York after 1,152 days at sea. He set sail round the world in April 2007.

His girlfriend Soanya had originally accompanied him aboard the 70ft schooner but was taken ashore when she suspected she had become pregnant. Mr Stowe claims that their separation at that point was the hardest part of the trip.

Ms Ahmad told the BBC, 'Before we left, we had an agreement that if I had to get off for any reason, he would go on... I knew if he came back and didn't finish the voyage, he would just go back again. There was no way he wasn't going to finish it.'

The schooner was built by Mr Stowe’s family thirty years ago and he described his epic trip as a ‘voyage of love’. He spent his time at sea, painting, practising yoga and writing a book. He said of the boat, named Anne after his Mother, 'She's done what no vessel in the world has done.'

His record claim will be checked via the GPS satellite system that tracked the voyage
