NIAGARA FALLS ON A TIGHTROPE

Its over a hundred years since James Hardy crossed the Niagara Falls on a tightrope, but this summer Nik Wallenda, a seventh generation family member of the famous Flying Wallendas hopes to complete this breathtaking stunt. The Flying Wallendas are best known for their daredevil high wire acts without the use of safety nets. This has resulted in some fatal accidents.

The Niagara Parks Commission originally denied the request to attempt the stunt, but have since reversed their decision after considering the amount of revenue it will generate for the region. Janice Thomson from the Niagara Parks Commission said 'This decision was approved in part in recognition of the role that stunting has played in the history and promotion of Niagara Falls, This is a very unique one-time situation'.

The wire Willenda aims to cross the falls on is 5cm thick and 450 metre long, and could take him upto 45 minutes to complete the crossing. It is hoped that the stunt could generate as much as 76 million pounds for the region.
