TV’s favorite eccentric, James May has begun an attempt to build a full sized house using Lego. Not only that but the Top Gear presenter has vowed to spend a few days actually living in the building once it is complete. The house will include a fully functioning toilet and shower.

The house, which is being built for the BBC TV series James May’s Toy Stories is being built in the middle of the Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking. Hundreds of people have turned up, with people queing from 4.30am to get hold of one of the 600 tickets available for a volunteer and a friend to help out. Each helper has the task of making full sized bricks out of 272 Lego pieces. People were asked to bring along any unwanted Lego despite over 3 million bricks being delivered to the site last week.

James May, who surprisingly came up with the idea whilst having a beer with friends, had this to say. 'Your imagination is always bigger than your stockpile when you're a kid… Up until now, the largest thing I've ever built with Lego was probably a plane or a battleship, because that was all I could build with the amount I had… I'm planning to stay there for two or three days, or until it falls down - whichever is sooner… I'm pretty relaxed about it, but will just have to be careful moving around… If I wake up buried under a pile of bricks I'll know it's gone wrong.'

Builders are expected to take six days to complete the project.
