GREAT BIG SCAREDY CATS Saturday November 21st, 2009
ImageIn a role reversal straight out of a Warner brothers cartoon five rare adult white tigers at the Chongqing Wild Animal Park have become so tame they are scared of the live chickens they are given to eat. The tigers were originally trained to perform for visitors have had it so easy they have become soft. All attempts to put them back in touch with their wild instincts have so far failed.
Their feeder Shi Ruqiang said, “They're supposed to be wild and scary, but due to their soft lifestyles and human care they have gradually lost their wild nature... I have been trying to interest them with live chickens but it was quite a funny scene. The tigers were so scared that they wouldn't go near them... One chicken passed out and the tigers did eventually approach it - but then it woke up again and squawked and they ran for their lives!'
Keepers are now hoping that keeping the tigers outside their cages for twelve hours at a time will help and are considering introducing wild tigers.
'If all else fails, we will simply cut down their rations until they are so hungry that they are forced to hunt for themselves,' said Shi
