GLASTONBURY 2009 NEARLY SOLD OUT ALREADY!
After a couple of troubled years it looks like Glastonbury 2009 is already on target for being a huge success. After the 2007 wash-out and the failure of the 2008 event to sell-out in advance, organiser Michael Eavis says that the decision to put tickets on sale in October has paid off and 90% of the 137,500 tickets have now been sold. According to Eavis, who spoke at the Midem conference in Cannes, 'We've got four headliners at the moment,' he said. 'If they all confirm, then I've got two headliners for Saturday.' Rumour has it that those four artists are Blur, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and Kaiser Chiefs.
Eavis had come to Midem to receive the Green World Award in acknowledgement of Glastonbury’s environmental friendly record. The festival recycles around a thousand tonnes of waste each year, uses only chemical free fertilisers and most recently introduced biodegradable tent pegs to reduce the chance of injury to Eavis’ dairy cattle. The Glastonbury Festival also supports Greenpeace and exports hundreds of pairs of discarded Wellington boots to Senegal every year.
