DIGITAL YACHT GPS150

Wednesday November 20th, 2013
ImageThe importance of a boats exact position during navigating is obviously of extreme importance, and while the more traditional methods of navigation should always be practiced and never forgotten, let’s be honest the vast majority of us now depend heavily on GPS. So having the most up to date model combining GPS and the Russian GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System) makes for an impressive piece of kit

Well Digital Yacht have done this with their recently launched GPS150. The GPS150 DualNav™ positioning sensor combines a super accurate 50 channel GPS with GLONASS, that is now available and provides excellent back up or alternative to GPS. This “smart” sensor automatically switches between systems or alternately can be changed manually select the most appropriate. The GPS150 will also be able to utilise the European funded Galileo positioning system when it comes on line (IOC – Initial Operation Capability in 2018).

The introduction of GLONASS is possibly one of the biggest changes in marine navigation since the original GPS was launched. The GPS150 utilises the NMEA data thus making it compatable to both old and new chart plotters.

This article is only a brief description of the GPS150 and there are plenty more benefits that would appeal to both cruisers and racer and at a price of around £125 plus VAT, it sounds like a winner to us. But don’t just take our word for it. Follow the link below for more information.
