Oscar Mead has become the youngest ever competitor to complete the 3000 mile OSTAR. The 18 year old, who grew up in Hong Kong finished the transatlantic crossing in 21 days.

Mead has been sailing since he was 8 and already has an impressive nautical CV which includes The China Sea Race (with Frank Pong), the Royal Southampton 2-handed series (with his dad, winning 5 of 7 starts) and the Petite Bateau Channel Week (in which he was ‘Top Rookie’).

Of his latest achievement Oscar said, 'It doesn't mean anything to be the youngest ever starter, that's do-able, racing the Atlantic, and finishing, that's harder!'

With competitors getting younger all the time it looks like sailing is fast following in the footsteps of golf as the new young persons sport of choice
