ANGELSEY TO ISLE OF MAN IN A PUMPKIN

ANGELSEY TO ISLE OF MAN IN A PUMPKIN Thursday March 04th, 2010
ImageIt sounds like something out of a children’s story book, but award winning vegetable gardener, Medwyn Williams, is planning to sail to the Isle of Man in a pumpkin. The 67year-old is currently growing a 725kg gourd at his hometown of Llanfairpwll on Angelsey and hopes to raise money for the Help for Heroes Campaign.
The pumpkin boat will be fitted with a seat and outboard motor and Mr Williams is confident that the 15cm thick sides will be strong enough to withstand the elements. The Chelsea Flower Show award winner had this to say about the stunt.
'I am totally confident this can be done - we shall call her HMV Cinderella... Her Majesty's Vegetable... I have done tests with smaller pumpkins and they float well. I might just make it to the Isle of Man.'
