Spain’s second most culturally important coastal town, Sitges is also amongst the liveliest. The town’s penchant for celebration and festivities is the stuff of legend often knocking its ‘big brother’, Barcelona into the proverbial hat. Situated between incredible, pristine beaches and equally incredible mountainous countryside, modern Sitges is a child of the 1960 hippy invasion. Looking around the centre it is instantly apparent what attracted the Bohemian element, the fusion of architecture from throughout the ages is awe inspiring and the proximity to wilderness and water adds the illusion of being somewhere hidden from the rest of the world.

Dining out is an adventure in itself and Sitges is renowned for the quality of the local cuisine, especially xató and fideuá two of the most mouth-watering seafood dishes you could ever wish to taste. The town’s popularity with gay tourists is reflected in the colourful nightlife, which, like Barcelona, appears to be never ending, but Sitges is also a popular family resort and offers a plethora of attractions for children and their parents. There are three excellent museums as well as numerous historical buildings and heritage sites to visit. High points of Sitges’ calendar include the Film Festival and Carnival.
