Harbour View Restaurant

Thistle Poole has definitely found the recipe for success. Not only has the hotel's restaurant The Harbour View, launched a fresh fish bar, it has been awarded one AA Rosette. The restaurant which overlooks the Quayside, already features fish heavily on the menu, but now customers can choose exactly which sea-fresh fish they would like straight from the counter.

We are waiting for information for the write up on this restaurant but two of the Harbourguides Crew had a meal there just recently and could not fault anything about their meal or experience.
They described their meal as one of the best fish dishes they had eaten. And the deserts are just as good
Their advice is "must try it" |

King Charles Inn

|
A traditional 'Old World Pub' situated close to the waterfront, is noted to be the oldest pub in Dorset, according to the deeds, it was once a twelfth century monastery and a corn exchange, the early days saw a strong connection with the smuggling trade, and local legend believes there are caves below, famous for the ghost of the 'hanged lady' who lost her husband at sea, weekly sightings are reported as she still haunts the place, along with (as local folk law would say) a laughing fisherman and a little girl who appear as ghostly apparitions. There are regular investigations into the paranormal activities by professionals due to the amount of sightings and ghostly goings on.
Nowadays the 'King Charles' is renowned for its real ale, fine wines, traditional home cooked food (king size portions) and a welcoming/friendly atmosphere. |

Catch of the Day Take a stroll down Poole Quay and discover its oldest watering hole… THE POOLE ARMS, is run by friendly landlord Bob Kerr and his wife Maureen who is also the cook at this specialist fish pub, right on the side of Poole Quay. The oldest Pub on Poole Quay, the Poole Arms with its distinctive green tiling dates from the 1600s. Eat overlooking the Quay and in summer tables are set outside. Bob and Maureen have a clearly defined view of how fish should be eaten and present beautifully simple dishes with new potatoes and peas, either pan fried, poached or oven baked without a chip in sight. The house menu nods emphatically towards the nearby water, with what one visitor describes as “excellent seafood at reasonable prices. The only Pub in the town not offering the usual fish-and-chip-in batter fare”. With home-made house specialities such as Fish Soup,Fish Pie and Seafood Casserole. Other favourites at the Poole Arms include King Prawns in garlic, moulles marinier, herring roes on toast, cod, haddock and plaice fillet, and fresh dressed crab salad with minted new potatoes. The Poole Arms also has a board with the catch of the day and is influenced by the seasons, utilising local produce as much as possible. The board changes daily and you will see such offerings as Brill, Bream, Skate Wing, Whole Plaice, Red Gurnard, Dab, Torbay Sole, Sea Bass and Sprats. Serving beers from Ringwood Brewery the Poole Arms has been included in the CAMRA good beer guide for the first time, one of only 4500 out of over 60,000 pubs. The Canteen
|
| Corporate Events, Restaurants |
 |
The Canteen Restaurant is a family business that mixes Great British and European cooking,
The menu always has something for everyone. In the summer the emphasis is on fish, mostly landed locally, including oysters and crabs from Poole. In the winter Mike butchers his own whole organic Lleyn lambs from Corfe castle, sides of organic Longhorn beef and rose veal from Lychett Matravers. In season wild deer and pheasants from the Purbecks.
The menu is inspired by passion not fashion, with common fish respected as much as the more xpensive cheffy kind and due respect given to the whole animal. Local fruit and veg is used wherever possible. Everything is homemade, absolutely without exception.
Service is genuinely friendly and the ambience relaxed.
Open Monday to Saturday 12:00pm-2:30pm and 6pm to late. Telephone: 01202-680014.
