Duke of Cornwall Hotel
Accommodation
Duke of Cornwall Hotel

Plymouth's most individual Hotel - a perfect combination of traditional and contemporary chic. This famous Victorian gothic hotel built in 1863 has remained a focal point of Plymouth's landscape. The Duke of Cornwall was built by a group of railway company directors to cater for travellers to the region both by rail and sea. The passengers disembarked from the ocean liners arriving from New York in the great western docks at Millbay, and the imposing tower which can still be seen today above the modern buildings still remains a constant point of interest for inquisitive guests who are keen to find out the reason for the towers existence and it's original purpose. It seems that it was purely built for decoration, although the porters would often run up to the tower to see the liners arriving in the port and would then go and greet the passengers and escort them to their accommodation.
The city's Millbay railway station stood directly opposite the hotel where Plymouth Pavilions now stands.
Most of the places of interest listed in the hotel's original brochure still exist today such as, Plymouth Hoe and the Barbican, Dartmoor National Park, Burrator Reservoir, Eddystone Lighthouse, Mount Edgecombe Park and the Dockyard.
The Duke of Cornwall continues to provide the very best of service in it's own timeless and unique style. Now a thriving city centre hotel ideally located for exploring Plymouth Hoe and the surrounding areas. The hotel boasts 72 unique interior designed bedrooms with private en-suite luxury bathrooms.
Our Blue Ribband 2 and AA rosette restaurant serves the finest of contemporary cuisine to be found in the city.
We specialise in weddings and functions in our grand ballroom and six other exquisite fully equipped conference and banqueting suites. The luxury character of Plymouth's most prestigious hotel makes the larger conference, small meeting and special celebration an occasion of great style.
Our team of dedicated staff welcome our guests to stay in comfort at The Duke of Cornwall Hotel
