Newcastle Information

NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
Newcastle has come a long way from its coal mining, wool and shipbuilding glory years. After centuries of affluence and industrial pioneering the city fell by the wayside only to reinvent itself and become the proverbial phoenix. Newcastle Upon Tyne now boasts one of the most applied for Universities in the country. It has been voted the UK’s best short break destination. It has emerged from an industrial wasteland as a vibrant hub of art, culture and most importantly fun.

Newcastle also boasts possibly the most sheltered marina in country and the first City Centre marina in the North East. Situated just 1 mile from the town centre St. Peter’s is privately owned and offers a friendly personal service. The marina can accommodate vessels up to 120ft. All 150 of the pontoon berths have electricity and water and a maintained depth of 2 metres. St Peter’s offers a full range of marine services including repairs, crane lift up to 3 tons, mast stepping, anti fouling, chandlery and much more. There is also an RYA training centre for both power and sail boats.

The City itself is a hub of entertainment, leisure, history, art, culture, fine dining, clubbing and the very best of British hospitality. The Centre has more listed buildings than anywhere else in the UK. It hosts the most popular half marathon in the world – the Great North Run. It has the oldest football stadium in the country – St. James’ Park. There are more theatres in the region than anywhere else in the UK. Newcastle has some of the best museums in the world. The nightlife has become legendary, with people young and old flocking from all corners to feast on the friendly eclectic vibe of music, dancing, clubs, pubs, restaurants and cafes. There are countless places of interested and attractions in the surrounding area – Hadrian’s Wall, Gateshead Millennium Bridge, The Angel of the North, Bowes Railway to name but a fraction. And it is home to the best brown ale ever brewed.

Friendly, accommodating, exciting, fascinating, whatever you expect from a visit to a major city Newcastle is guaranteed to surpass all expectations and give you some very nice surprises to boot.

Limited access for yachts due to the bridge, zero security and check out the website for charges, having a Giraffe as we say up north. Better use Royal Quays or St Peters which has a bus to the quayside (5 mins)
