Largs Information

LARGS

Situated on the west coast of North Ayrshire in Scotland, Largs was the site of a historic (if somewhat accidental) Viking invasion in 1263, when part of King Haakoon’s army were blown off course and descended on by locals. The occupation however lasted only a few years, as it was never intended. Today Largs still celebrates its Viking heritage both culturally and through their love and enthusiasm for sailing and water-sports. Because of this deep-rooted relationship with the sea, Largs is a focus for yachtsmen and pleasure boat enthusiasts from all over Europe. All of them impressed by the fine sailing conditions, plentiful moorings, spectacular surroundings and warmth of the local welcome.

An extremely pretty resort, Largs caters for its visitors in spades, arcades, funfairs, riverboat expeditions, festivals and the fantastic Vikingar leisure complex are but a few of the attractions on offer. Add to this top quality shopping, a superb choice of accommodation, an incredible array of restaurants and cafes serving fresh fish and seafood, gourmet delights and fine homemade traditional cooking. There is also, as you would expect from a Scottish seaside town, an excellent pub scene for those holiday nights on the town. Largs has come a long way since those ancient days of longboats and battles and one wonders, had the Vikings arrived today would they have abandoned the place quite so soon? Judging by the popularity for this idyllic seaside town in the 21st century I think they may well have stuck around a good while longer.
