Chrissie's Kitchen

Chrissie's Kitchen

It’s high time that Conwy with its harbour and quay had a seafood restaurant and Chrissie’s Kitchen has come along and filled the gap. Situated next to the water and opposite one of the oldest houses in Wales, this intimate little eatery is owned and run by eponymous chef-patron Chrissie and specialises in seafood fresh from local waters. Expect dishes like the signature smoked haddock and prawn chowder and a seafood gumbo that’s packed with mussels, prawns, crevettes, oysters, scallops and crab. It’s open for lunch and dinner six days a week (closed Tuesdays) and won’t break the bank with an average three-course lunch checking in at around £20 and a three-course dinner for £26. Not bad prices for an increasingly scarce commodity. Well-behaved children are welcome and if they aren’t huge seafood fans there is a kids menu featuring sausage, burgers and the like. Chrissie’s can accommodate 40 diners over two floors and the downstairs is available for private hire.

The Press Room
Cafés, Corporate Events, Restaurants, Takeaway Food
The Press Room

The Press Room traces its antecedents back to the 1860s when the current owner’s great-great-great grandfather published the first Conwy Visitor newspaper from here. The building, which is situated right by Conwy Castle, later fell into disuse but reopened in 2005 as a cafe and natural health shop and has been sympathetically restored with its newspaper heritage very much to the fore. The Press Room opens daytimes every day of the week for morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea. Chef Didier previously spent 20 years in London, training originally under the Roux brothers, and as well as a choice of lighter bites like rarebits and hot and cold sandwiches, lunchtimes at The Press Room see homemade soups and quiches as well pasta bakes, jackets and the like. The specials board features fresh local produce like the famous Conwy mussels as well as cakes which are either home made or straight from the local baker. The Press Room is licensed too so you also can enjoy a glass of wine or lager with your meal. The shop here stocks a wide range of natural health foods and organic bodycare supplements.
