Conwy Information

CONWY

Named after the river estuary it overlooks, Conwy is best known for its magnificent medieval castle and virtually intact town wall. A favourite with tourists and local communities alike the vibrant town centre is a melting pot of ancient and modern, so lovingly developed that the difference is virtually seamless.

With a coastline that has for many years been a favourite amongst the sailing fraternity it is no wonder that many of the town’s visitors are drawn to the lovely sheltered marina with it’s backdrop of natural Welsh beauty and excellent facilities. The Conwy Quays Marina boasts an impressive 500 secure pontoon berths, superb nearby boating and excellent cruising opportunities.

Ashore the fascinating walled town offers many delights. Picturesque narrow streets filled with architectural wonders including the 14th century Aberconwy House believed to be the oldest town house in Wales, Plas Mawr amongst finest remaining Elizabethan country houses and Britain’s smallest house. With lots of great places to shop, eat and drink it is easy to simply get lost in the town itself. But it would be a shame not to explore the surrounding countryside. The River Conwy itself for instance with its three famous bridges including Thomas Telford’s pioneering suspension bridge; there’s the beautiful Great Orme with its awesome panoramic views of Llandudno and the fascinating village of Portmerion that starred in 60s TV series The Prisoner.

With a truly enviable location, Conwy is an innately magical place. Its history, ambience and surroundings combine to create something almost dreamlike. It remains almost timeless yet has welcomed the march of time with open arms and embraces those who venture beyond its ancient walls. A place in which to lose oneself. A place of adventure. Above all Conwy is a place of peace, happiness and the very best of Welsh hospitality.

Had the pleasure of staying and dining at the Castle Hotel whilst updating our Conwy guide. Should be 5* (star) not 4. Highly recommended. Welsh lamb for dinner, haddock and soft poached eggs for breakfast excellent. Also worth noting do not have to be resident to eat there, Try it ,you will not be disappointed.

Hi Duncin, our sales reps would find it somewhat difficult going on appointments by boat, as the businesses they visit ie marine services, restaurants, general shops etc believe it or not tend to be on land. However our charts are provided by the UKHO and our pilot notes when available to us by the marinas or other reliable sources.
The rest of the Harbourguides Crew sail the Harbourguides yacht often and are in fact sailing it from the North West of England to Spain later this year.
Hope this "Explains everything" a little clearer for you.
Please keep on sending in your comments, although we cant post them all they give the crew here a good giggle.
Cheers
