Ardrossan Information

ARDROSSAN

Although the area had been settled as far back as the 12th century, Ardrossan didn’t begin to develop until the beginning of the 1800s when its two magnificent deepwater bays became popular with seaside visitors. The ferry connections to Belfast, The Isle of Man and Isle of Arran meant there was no shortage of folk travelling to the bustling seaside town to enjoy the fresh sea air and long sandy beaches. Ardrossan also thrived as a coal port and played a key role in oil refining, shipbuilding and railways.

Today the water is mainly the domain of yachts and pleasure cruisers, their owners attracted by the scenic beauty of the bays, the first-rate marina and the excellent sailing conditions. There is also plenty to see and do ashore, with numerous historical buildings dotted throughout the town and wonderful gardens along the promenade. The vibrant town centre has superb shopping and plenty of fine restaurants, cafes and pubs in which to relax and regenerate your batteries after a day of the waves. Ardrossan is also within easy travelling distance of popular seaside towns of Saltcoats and Stevenston and, of course, the Isle of Arran by ferry.

A great place from which to discover this most spectacular and beautiful parts of the UK; Ardrossan has much to offer the most discerning of visitors – health, heritage, high-spirits, and happiness but most of all, hospitality.
