Standing on the oldest known inn site in Plymouth, the Abbey was built here, in St. Andrew's Street, following the demolition of the mediaeval Turk's Head in 1861. St. Andrew's Street itself of course is one of the oldest thoroughfares in the city although since 1979 its line has been interrupted by Plymouth Magistrates' Court. Until the 1930s an ancient terrace of buildings known as Abbey Place ran from the corner of St. Andrew Street, opposite this pub, across to the top of Finewell Street and the Prysten House.
Curiously enough it is this building - the Prysten House - which indirectly gives its name both to Abbey Place and the Abbey Hotel. Long thought, albeit mistakenly, to have been a place with ecclesiastical connections, the house, built by Thomas Yogge in the fifteenth century, was being referred to as the Old Abbey at least 250 years ago. The picture of an old Abbey ruins on the inn sign is no more than an attractive piece of fiction.
Known as Kitty O'Hanlons since 1994, this was the first 'Irish' pub in Plymouth and the best.

Mayflower Marina is unique! Not only are we an independent marina but unusually, we are owned by shareholders of whom the vast majority are existing berth holders.The Company's Chairman and the entire Board of Directors are both shareholders and berth holders. This combination of factors sets us apart from other marinas, placing higher emphasis on customer care and allowing for a policy of continual investment and improvement of facilities. Non shareholding berth holders and visitors are most welcome - there are no second class citizens at Mayflower Marina! MJ Marine Safety is a small family-run business that was started in 2006 at the developing Yacht Haven Quay providing dry-berthing and a boat-stowage facility here in Plymouth.

Martin's career in Safety Equipment started off in the Royal Air Force in 1983 as a Safety Equipment Fitter. On being attached to the Parachute Regiment at Aldershot Martin served in several regions of the world servicing safety equipment.

Since leaving the Royal Air Force, Martin has become a Royal Yachting Association Sea Survival Instructor. He has also set up three approved MCA Liferaft servicing stations for previous companies and become a member of the RNLI Sea Check Team in Plymouth and able to give talks and demostrations for your club or Scout group ect.

Along side this Martin has now been trainined up with Her Majesty's Coast Guard Search and Rescue and since joining the Mountbatten (Plymouth) Team and has passed his Cliff Rescue technician course to become a Coast Guard Rescue Officer for the Plymouth Team.

It was because of the demise of his previous employer that prompted him to start MJ Marine Safety.

I started in the trade from the age of 15 as an apprentice in a local Cornish boatbuilding and repairs yard serving a 4 ½ year apprenticeship as a traditional boatbuilder/repairer. Working on all types of craft including yachts, lifeboats, Fishing vessels, passenger vessels and a wide range of m.o.d. craft. Working to a high standard. Meeting with Llyods and Mca standards where required.

The Dinghy and RIB Warehouse opened on the 11th April 2003. I honestly believe we can offer you excellent service and advise on all your inflatable tender, RIB or outboard needs.

The Minerva Inn is Plymouths oldest pub, opened around 1540. It is situated in Looe Street where Sir Francis Drake once resided.
The public house, with its open fire and oak beams was once the home to the press gang and still plays host to resident ghosts.
The friendly local offers a choice of well kept real ales as well as a fully stocked bar.
All year round we have live entertainment. Thursday nights all are welcome to our jam session, which is very popular to a variety of musicians amd singers where all are welcome to join in.
Friday and Saturday nights we have local artists to entertain you ranging from jazz, rock, classical, pop and folk music.
Sunday afternoons we have a regular duo "JD & Coke" who get the pub swinging from 4-30pm. From the end of August to the beginning of May we hold our weekly Quiz every Monday night. It is free to enter and offers free drinks to the winning team. The night also has a cash prize if you can answer the "Killer Question"

Yukisan is the first Japanese restaurant in Devon, established in 2004, situated in Plymouth's regenerated Barbican area with its winding cobbled streets. Our own style dishes are specially designed and prepared by our trained chefs.
