During the season, the Boatshed Café bar is open throughout the day and evening – with the main first floor restaurant being open in the evenings. The Cafe Bar has a distinctly continental feel in keeping with its original heritage. Newlyn is one of the largest fishing port in the UK and is the first 24/7 harbour available to boats fishing the Southwest Atlantic waters.
The new Newlyn Pier and Harbour Commissioners have been appointed to supervise the development and running of the port and fish market in the interests of the fishing industry and the broader Newlyn community. The Commissioners have been offered substantial funds to support a new fish market from the European Union Fisheries Fund and the European Union Regional Development Fund to help regenerate Newlyn as a port and town. Important decisions now need to be made regarding this funding, the proposed developments and the additional funding required and the new Harbour Commissioners Board are determined to consider the shipping industry and related industry and the local community in their discussions.

Penzance Dry Dock was founded in 1834 and not only is it one of the oldest established dry docks in the UK; it is one of the first in Europe. Over the years the shipyard has had many clients, from local fishing vessels to the Ministry of Defence. The Dry Dock operates a 365 day a year service and together with sheltered wet berths and tidal berths, is ideally located at the crossroads of the world's busiest shipping lanes within the UK Southwest.
The Dry Dock facilities provide a complete range of marine services and the workshops are well equipped to complete all first class marine and land based engineering services, refits and conversions for: - Commercial ships - Super yachts - Trawlers - Workboats - Barges - Pontoons.

The Dry Dock is now operated by the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group who have been in existence for 90 years and currently own five vessels, one passenger ferry, one general cargo pallet carrier, one general cargo vessel and two inter-island working boats.

The Penzance Harbour Users Association exists to give its members a collective voice. At a time when there is the potential for lots of change in the harbour area it is more important than ever that the people who use the harbour for business and pleasure have representation. The association has monthly meetings up to date issues are discussed and members get a chance to meet on a social basis. These meetings can involve illustrated talks on a variety of topics, by visiting speakers and harbour users. If you are new to the harbour it offers the opportunity to meet other boat users and to keep abreast of current developments.

I started in the trade from the age of 15 as an apprentice in a local Cornish boatbuilding and repairs yard serving a 4 ½ year apprenticeship as a traditional boatbuilder/repairer. Working on all types of craft including yachts, lifeboats, Fishing vessels, passenger vessels and a wide range of m.o.d. craft. Working to a high standard. Meeting with Llyods and Mca standards where required.
Subsequently have continued in the trade of mainly extensive boat repairs for a further 19 yrs. Covering just about all aspects of yacht and boat repair work, in and around south east Cornwall and west Devon.
My work has been mainly concentrated on traditional wooden craft but does expand through to contemporary construction methods and applications.
