Since Lallows was established in 1867 Lallows has built many Boats some famous and some not so famous from dinghies scows, several Jolinas, Scods, Dragons, Drumbeat and Britannia a double ended row boat designed by Uffa Fox that John Fairfax rowed across the Atlantic. Britannia is now on view at the Classic Boat Museum, also there has been Clarion of Wight, Tiller Girl, Ambition a 5.5metre class, and many X Boats, Lallows is 1 of only 2 yards left with a licence to build X boats.
In 1960 the Daring class was formed based on the 5.5 metre hull, over the years a total of 32 were built by Lallows. The whole Daring fleet are looked after by Lallows both summer and winter and we are now currently involved in the fit out of the new D2 project with one new Daring already built during the summer of 2009 (Debutante) and another 4 to follow this winter ready for the 2010 season..
In 1970 the yard was commissioned to build a yacht for the then Prime Minister Edward Heath. Morning Cloud 11 was launched in 1971 and was so successful that his next boat was also built by Lallows.
Managing Director and owner Lawrence Boarer, is also a master craftsman who imports and sells wood and timber for use in onshore building projects. This is seen by Lallows as an important factor in the company's future growth, we now not only work in all aspects of the marine industry but also have a very busy joinery department taking on all sorts of work from manufacturing custom made doors, windows, conservatories and staircases operating from the boatyard premises going by the name of Island Specialist Hardwoods.
Lawrence Boarer took over the yard in1996 . Lawrence started his apprenticeship with John Fullford in Wootton on the Island but after two years the work dried up and he then joined Lallows to finish his apprenticeship and stayed for 7 years and was involved in the building of the 3rd Morning Cloud, Brother Cup, Loujaine, Alchemist, several X Boats and of course the normal repair work that is carried out by the yard. Lawrence was one of 28 employees and enjoyed his time with Lallows and learnt a lot from Clare sometimes on a one to one basis. In 1978 Lawrence left to further his career but did miss the camaraderie so obvious within the yard so when the yard was put on the market he just had to buy. Sadly the yard was run down and Lawrence set himself a goal of 7/10 years to turn the yard around. here we are 13 years on and yes we have turned things around with the help of all the staff .
In 1999 Lallows Launched Sioma a restored 6 Metre that won the European championships that year, she was sold last year and the new owner won a cup during the classic regatta last year with no previous experience of 6 mtr sailing. 2 Years ago we restored Eve Woodyear's boat Dormouse which was featured in the Island Sailing Club Magazine, the new owner has taken her up to the Orkneys and back.
In 2008 we restored Ted Heath's Morning Cloud now called Opposition.
More recently we have completed a restoration on a Windfall classic yacht Erida, and are currently working on the restoration of a Scandinavian timber construction launch called Vergo.

There are a large number of visitors berths that may be booked in advance. There are two areas at either end of the marina designated for visiting boats - to the north, A and B pontoons now constitute the main visitor berthing zone and there are still a number of visiting berths in the southern basin. The bay layout of the pontoons means that during busy periods rafting is necessary, but nonetheless there is ample access to electricity and fresh water.

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert bought Osborne and its estate from Lady Isabella Blachford in 1845. In 1848 the old house was demolished and a new three-storey pavilion with flagtower and main and household wings was built. The 19th century estate eventually totalled over 800 hectares and included numerous cottages and lodges for estate workers and members of the household. Prince Albert's planting scheme was partially dictated by the already well-established late 18th century landscape that surrounded Osborne House. Other influences include his liking for poplars found at his family home of the Rosenau, and for the Italian fashion which he had seen at first hand of lining principal drives and walks with evergreens, such as myrtle and laurel. The walled kitchen-garden and adjoining pleasure grounds in front of the house remained as elements from the late 18th century landscape. The upper and lower terraces, with their ornamental parterres interspersed with statues representing the seasons, were constructed under the supervision of Prince Albert and Ludwig Gruner. The Swiss Cottage Garden laid out in 1853, with furnished cottage, was used by the children to grow and sell vegetables as a practical exercise in market gardening. The garden is following a restoration programme with the aim to present the park and garden landscape as close to the period before Queen Victoria's death as possible.

I started in the trade from the age of 15 as an apprentice in a local Cornish boatbuilding and repairs yard serving a 4 ½ year apprenticeship as a traditional boatbuilder/repairer. Working on all types of craft including yachts, lifeboats, Fishing vessels, passenger vessels and a wide range of m.o.d. craft. Working to a high standard. Meeting with Llyods and Mca standards where required.
Subsequently have continued in the trade of mainly extensive boat repairs for a further 19 yrs. Covering just about all aspects of yacht and boat repair work, in and around south east Cornwall and west Devon.
My work has been mainly concentrated on traditional wooden craft but does expand through to contemporary construction methods and applications.

The Octopus' Garden celebrated its 9th Birthday on Valentines Day 2008 and has gone from strength to strength since it began life in 1999.

The current proprietor, Chris Sanders, has been a Beatles fan since childhood and much of his collection of memorabilia is on display in the cafe.

The Octopus Garden is the most child friendly cafe in Cowes, Isle of Wight, and there is a large collection of toys and games to entertain them while they are waiting for their meals.
