Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in England, and has been home to the Duke of Northumberland's family, the Percys, through 700 years of drama, intrigue, tragedy and romance. Nicknamed 'The Windsor of the North', it has a turbulent past just waiting to be discovered. Alnwick Castle's unique history features kingmakers, rebels, a gunpowder-plotter and passionate collectors, as well as Harry Hotspur, the most famous of all Percys.

A castle has been recorded on this site for an incredible 1000 years. Situated in Northumberland near the volatile border between England and Scotland, Alnwick Castle was built in the classic Norman motte and bailey style, to defend the town against attacks from marauding Scots. When the 1st Lord Percy of Alnwick purchased the castle in the early 1300s, he upgraded all its defensive features, turning it into an impenetrable fortress. You can still see parts of this extensive renovation today, as the Abbot’s Tower, the Middle Gateway and the Constable’s Tower have all survived as reminders of the castle’s gruesome past.

The Garden has a varied programme of events and activities throughout the year, with music, performances, storytelling, workshops, exhibitions, classes, tours and much more. Every visit is different with something new to experience, and much of the programme is free for visitors.

The programmes are inspiring and informal, with events and activities for young people, for older people, for families, and for those with special interests.

mble Boat Company was established in 1995 and lies between Amble Marina and Warkworth Harbour. Located in "the friendliest port" on the picturesque Northumbrian coast, the yards history dates back to 1870, with a proud reputation for building the finest North East fishing cobles. With the decline in traditional boat building the yard adopted new materials and developed the Background construction of all welded Aluminium alloy vessels up to 22.0m in length. From the small yard in Amble, vessels have been built for Morocco, Malta, Bahrain, South Korea and Jordan. The largest vessel to date being, Hamzah 1. A 20.0m Oil Pollution control Vessel, now operating in Aqaba. For many years the yard has also undertaken refit and survey work for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, evolving from the traditionally constructed boats to the present "State of the art" all weather lifeboats. The company, owned and run by Nick and Katie Spurr, offers a comprehensive service to commercial and leisure owners, and the staff, led by Yard Manager Stephan Foster and yard supervisor David "Rupert" Barclay embrace all aspects of marine work with particular expertise in GRP repairs, osmosis treatment, spray painting, marine joinery, marine engineering, fabrication and rigging. The yard operates a 50 tonne Marine Travel boat hoist, on site cranage, yard and undercover storage, extensive workshops and a well-stocked chandlery, complete with the "legendary" coffee pot.

Ancasta Port Hamble is the Group's Head Office. The Brokerage department, run by Rhian Sewell and her team of three full-time brokers is open 7 days a week – together with all other Ancasta offices.

The team has just moved into stunning new offices, in a prime location, overlooking the River Hamble.
